‘Fixer Upper: Welcome Home’: Joanna Gaines’ New ‘Barndomonium’ Project Is Less Controversial
“Barndemonium” was one of the most popular episodes of the original Fixer Upper. The season 3 installment featured a huge barn that Joanna Gaines so brilliantly converted into a chic living space. Fans adored it, and now they get a similar treat with Fixer Upper: Welcome Home and the “From Scrappy Barn to Modern Charm” episode.
This time, Joanna relied on a mix of styles that blended her typical farmhouse aesthetic with some cool industrial elements. But hopefully, this barn won’t turn out as controversial as the original Fixer Upper project.
The ‘Fixer Upper’ episode ‘Barndomonium’ turned into a PR nightmare
The barn remodel from season 3 of the original Fixer Upper became a true fan obsession. The Gaineses took a literal barn and made it into a 2,653-square-foot dream home for their client Kristi Bass. It remains one of the most popular episodes of the show, but now that success is tainted with controversy.
It started when the home’s owner listed the property for rent on Airbnb, hoping to generate a little extra income. According to Country Living, Bass was found guilty of a Class C misdemeanor and had to pay a fine for having a rental in the area without a permit.
The ‘Barndomonium’ fiasco made the ‘Fixer Upper’ team change their contract
Then, Bass decided to list the home for sale for a whopping $1.2 million. This flew in the face of the Gaineses who had expected her to enjoy the home with her family. “We are going to be more strict with our contracts involving Fixer Upper clients moving forward,” Magnolia spokesperson Brock Murphy said in a statement, according to Country Living.
He continued: “That’s the true intent of our show, and we want to ensure that does not get lost in this new vacation rental trend. We are going to do our best to protect that moving forward.”
Now with Fixer Upper: Welcome Home, there shouldn’t be any more issues with unapproved rentals or sales. Including the newest barn renovation project.
The new barn makeover on ‘Fixer Upper: Welcome Home’ is so chic
Gaines tackled another barn re-do in the Fixer Upper reboot because fans just love to see it. Episode 8, “From Scrappy Barn to Modern Charm” shows a couple who wants to renovate an old horse barn as a gift for their son. Gaines combines her typical design style with industrial accents to create a whole new look and feel. TThe Fixer Upper host had to overcome the challenge of a small space.
“The footprint of the barn itself wasn’t very big, but with an open concept living area, beautiful views, and an expansive front porch, this house is small but mighty,” Gaines wrote on her Magnolia blog. “We can’t wait for you to see how it came to life!”
