Flavor Flav was a rapper with Public Enemy and the host of ‘Flavor of Love’

In the mid-1980s, Flavor Flav founded the hip-hop group Public Enemy and served as their hype man. He helped lead the group to success, largely thanks to their 1989 hit song “Fight the Power.”

In the 2000s, Flavor Flav was introduced to new audiences with his reality dating show Flavor of Love. Though it was short lived, the show is regarded by many to be one of the greatest and most foundational reality TV shows of all time. For this, many credit the introduction of Tiffany “New York” Pollard, who would go on to become a popular TV personality herself.

Flavor Flav had a near-death experience

In December 2021, Flavor Flav was on a road trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles when rain caused a boulder to fall down the side of a cliff in La Tuna Canyon. The boulder smashed the right side of his vehicle. As a result of the collision, Flavor Flav briefly lost control of the car but was able to pull over to the side of the road.

He recounted his experience in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“I was driving through the canyon,” he recounted, “and as I’m driving, all I see is this big, giant object coming across my windshield.”

“I had a guy driving in the back of me and he’d seen the boulder come down in front of my car, man, and grazed my car. So that damage right there is from a graze.”

“I’m still traumatized right now, bro,” he said honestly. “I’m seeing flashbacks.”
