It’s not easy for an actor to go from horror movies to drama, especially when the movies are filming practically at the same time. Still, Florence Pugh does so seamlessly, appearing in multiple critically acclaimed movies during 2019 and 2020. Here’s how Florence Pugh went from being the star of Midsommar to an Academy Award nominee to a Russian spy in Marvel’s upcoming movie, Black Widow.

Although Florence Pugh has IMDB credits in projects like Lady Macbeth, King Lear, The Commuter, and the television mini-series, The Little Drummer Girl, some first saw her in the 2019 horror film, Midsommar. There, the actress appeared as the character, Dani, who travels to Sweden with her partner and a few of his friends.

This actor was working on Midsommar and Little Women around the same time, according to Indiewire. The actress stated that she went straight from the set of Midsommar to doing hair and makeup tests for Greta Gerwig’s Academy Award-nominated movie, Little Women.

Florence Pugh earned an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Amy March in ‘Little Women’

Released during December 2019, Grea Gerwig’s Little Women featured a cast of prominent actors. That includes Timothée Chalamet, Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern, and Meryl Streep. In this adaptation, Florence Pugh portrayed the spirited and outgoing Amy March, a painter who dreams of becoming the best artist in the world.

“I love all the incredibly spoiled characters,” she said during an interview with Vogue, “because they always represent that voice in our heads. Amy basically says everything she wants to say. She doesn’t care. So, I was obviously ecstatic to play her.”

Once the Academy announced their nominees for the upcoming Oscars, Florence Pugh earned a nomination in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category. She’s nominated in the same category for the BAFTA Awards, while Greta Gerwig earned a nomination in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. The Academy Awards take place on Feb. 9, 2020.

Florence Pugh stars as Black Widow’s sister in the upcoming Marvel movie

Up next for this actress is starring in a Marvel movie, alongside actors like Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz. This is the first Marvel movie to be released since 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and the record-breaking Avengers: Endgame.

Based on the trailer, this movie will help fill in the gaps of Black Widow’s story. Part of that is explaining how she went from Russian spy to one of the Avengers. That involves the character returning to her past and seeing her sister, portrayed by Florence Pugh.

“I didn’t quite know what it was to be involved in one of these films,” she says of the Marvel enterprise during the Vogue Magazine cover story. “Obviously you have to be physically able because the whole point is that you’re a super-hero.”

Not much is known about this character or the story of this action movie. However, fans can learn more from the film’s official trailer, which is now available on YouTube. Marvel’s Black Widow premieres in theaters on May 1, 2020.
