Former Counting On star Jill Dillard is unrecognizable in a new Instagram upload. The former reality star has updated her look with a drastically different hair color and style. Gone are her long, curly dark brown locks similar to that of her female family members. In their place are blonde on blonde highlights and beachy waves.
Dillard used to have long, brown hair similar to her sisters
For most of her childhood and adult life, Dillard wore her natural dark brown color in long curls. She and her Duggar family sisters shared the same hairstyle, a nod to their religious beliefs.
In their book Growing Up Duggar, the sisters explained why long hair was so important to them.
“Our hairstyle is our choice, and we choose longer hair based on our understanding of 1 Corinthians 11:14-15,” said the sisters. This passage explains how long women on hair is their “glory.”
Another reason the Duggar girls kept their hair long could be due to the teachings of the founder of the Advanced Training Institute leader Bill Gothard. Gothard leads the religious program and homeschooling curriculum the family follows. Gothard reportedly liked his female followers to have long, curly hair.
Jill Dillard debuted her new look on Instagram
Dillard surprised her followers by sharing an image taken by her hairstylist.
In the photo, taken from the back, Dillard debuted light blonde hair.
Dillard wrote in the caption, “so I did a thing today, thanks to Michelle Gambo hair.”
She then led her followers to her blog post where she shared a series of four photographs and admitted that this was the first time she had ever dyed her tresses.
Fans flipped out over the drastic change
Fans of the former reality star could not get over Dillard’s new look. They shared their remarks in the caption of her Instagram post.
“Gorgeous color Jill!! I hope you can feel all the love and support that is coming your way,” penned one follower.
“You look amazing!! I love the hair, your outfit, and you and Derek breaking free. Sending you prayers this week,” claimed a second fan.
“Gorgeous and fitting for the strong queen you are!!” wrote a third Instagram user.
“Oh. My. Gosh. You were always stunning, but this is GORGEOUS on you! Love it!!!” exclaimed a fourth fan.
