Former ‘Extreme Weight Loss’ Stars Chris and Heidi Powell Separating, Tried A ‘Magic Challenge’ To Save Their Marriage
Former Extreme Weight Loss stars Chris and Heidi Powell have announced they are separating, according to Chris’ Instagram account.
The weight-loss trainers have amicably decided to go their separate ways after ten years as a married couple.
Before they broke up, they tried what Heidi called a “magic challenge” to repair their marriage.
How Chris and Heidi Powell met
Heidi Powell shared with TransformHQ in 2019 about the day the two met, and how they knew right away they had a connection.
“I met Chris at a self-improvement seminar eleven years ago. That was a tough time in my life as a single mom of two battling an eating disorder (and coincidentally, in Chris’ as well), so it was kind of serendipitous how we got together. We were forced to get to know each other at our “worst,” which provided an incredible foundation for love and appreciation at our best.”
Eventually, the two married in 2010 in an early morning wedding in a strip mall at 6:43AM, a time chosen by Chris’ mother’s astrologer.
The challenge the couple underwent to save their marriage
Heidi posted on her blog in 2019 that her marriage to Chris was a strong one but had its rough spots. And so, the pair decided to try an unusual 30-day sex challenge to spice up their marriage.
“About a year ago, Chris and I sat stoic with bleary, red eyes, completely speechless in the parking lot of a divorce attorney’s office.”
The Powells shared their problems with a close friend, who recommended daily intimacy to bring them closer again.
She said, “Our friend shared a challenge he and his wife took on during a similar rut in their romance, and he raved about how it. . . turned them from near enemies to best friends. So what’s the magic challenge? It’s simple: Have sex every. single. day. for 30 days.”
From Heidi’s account, the challenge had its challenges, mainly going from their regular, heated arguments to passionate sex in the course of a day was not fun or easy to do. But they eventually found that the 30-day challenge helped.
“Despite the good, the bad, and the ugly of the day . . .,” she wrote, “we knew that nightly we were going to have the opportunity to put everything aside and just be in love . . .The 30 day challenge may have been based on sex, but what we gained from it had nothing to do with sex at all. The 30 day challenge gave us our love back, and in turn, our marriage.”
Their sad announcement today and vow of friendship to one another
Unfortunately, the married pair weren’t able to overcome their differences and announced this week their intention to end their marriage.
Chris Powell, on Instagram, made the announcement, making it clear that although they would no longer be married, their friendship was too strong to ever end ties altogether. Considering the couple is parents to four children, it’s good to know they will work together, especially for the sake of their kids.
“We have some difficult news to share with you today,” Chris wrote in part, “and hope it’s received with the compassion and love we need right now. It is with much thought, prayer, and love that Heidi and I have decided to separate as husband and wife.”
“We promise you the relationship between us will only continue to strengthen. . . It’s a true and beautiful life partnership—one we are both incredibly grateful for.
“As for our passion and desire to change the world? That will never change…and we will continue to excitedly pursue our mission together, side-by-side.”
