While Burton’s General Hospital character Jason Morgan experienced ups and downs in his love life, it appeared to be the opposite for the actor. He and his wife, Sheree Gustin, married in January 1999 and had three children together. The couple split their time between Los Angeles, California, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Unlike her famous husband, Sheree stayed out of the spotlight but often accompanied Burton to red carpet appearances. Now Sheree is making headline news after Burton revealed details of their separation, which sounds like something out of a soap opera.
On Wednesday, the actor posted an Instagram story detailing their split.
“I wanted to clear something up. Sheree and I are separated. She recently announced that she’s expecting her 4th child. The child is not mine.”
The actor then revealed they’re still co-parenting their three kids and asked for privacy during this time.

No further details have been revealed about the couple’s split, including how long they were separated. So far, Gustin is remaining mum following her husband’s announcement. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from talking about it on social media. Burton fans shared their opinion on the matter via a Twitter thread.

Steve Burton went through a lot of changes in recent months
Like on General Hospital, drama appears to be spilling into Burton’s real life. His separation from his wife, Sheree, isn’t the only change the actor’s undergone. In November 2021, he was fired from the ABC soap opera after nearly 30 years of playing Jason. Burton’s firing was because the actor refused to follow the show’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate.
On April 29, it was announced Burton would join the cast of Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem. Yet, news of his split has hampered the excitement over his new gig. While this is difficult for Burton and his family, fans are sending their love and support to the actor.
