‘Fortnite’: What to Expect From the Fortnitemares 2021 Spooky Film Festival
October has arrived, and Fortnite players know what that means: another Fortnitemares event. Every year, Epic Games’ battle royale hosts a Halloween-themed extravaganza to celebrate the spookiest month. Each Fortnitemares event seems to top the one before it, and this year will be no different. In 2021, Epic will introduce a Fortnitemares short film festival, appropriately nicknamed Shortnitemares, among other fun, new additions. Here’s what players can expect from the film fest.
‘Fortnite’ debuted Short Nite Film Festivals earlier in 2021
Epic first launched Fortnite’s Short Nite Film Festival series in February 2021. Held on the Big Screen in Party Royale mode, the event featured 12 short films from all around the globe. The festival ran for 30 minutes, but played on a loop for 24 hours so Fortnite players could jump in any time.
A revamped version of the event, Short Nite 2, later arrived in July 2021. This time, the festival ran nonstop for two days and featured animated online shorts. Short Nite 2 included two parts of the Gildedguy series, one of which was a world premiere. In celebration of the event, Fortnite temporarily added a Gildedguy outfit to the Item Shop.
Fortnitemares 2021 will include a Halloween-themed Short Nite Film Festival
Epic announced on Oct. 5 that Fortnitemares 2021 is now underway, including another Short Nite Film Festival installment. There’s no date yet for the event, but Epic revealed that it would wrap up Fortnitemares 2021, so it will likely take place at the end of October. This time, the films will focus on “ghoulish and sinister” themes.
Longtime Short Nite moviegoers will also notice a change in venue for the third film festival. Instead of all films playing on a loop in Party Royale, each one will have its own theater room. According to Epic, Quantum Builds created a Fortnite movie theater specifically for this event. If players want to see all the films, they can also watch the complete collection in the “festival room.”
More information on Shortnitemares’ short films will arrive soon.
The annual Halloween event has gotten even bigger this year
Fortnite fans might have to wait a few weeks for the film festival, but there’s still plenty of Halloween fun to be had before then. According to Epic, Fortnitemares 2021 will bring various Halloween Outfits to the Item Shop throughout October. Epic will flip a corresponding tarot card with each new addition to the shop, which players can follow here. The first outfit on Oct. 5 is a Frankenstein look.
Epic teased that a Mummy outfit would arrive in the Item Shop later. For now, players can grab the Vintage Frankenstein style as well as glowing Boxy and Boxer looks.
Fortnite Chapter 8 will also see some new developments during Fortnitemares 2021, as The Cubes will “escalate their domination” of Fortnite Island later in October. Until then, players can prepare by upgrading to Halloween-themed weapons.
Epic teased that there are still more announcements to come for Fortnitemares 2021, so players should stay tuned.
