‘Friends’: Actress Who Played Emma Welcomes the New Year by Responding to Chandler’s 2020 Message
Fans of Friends were really looking forward to making a specific reference with this new year. That’s because Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) made a message for another character for 2020.
It didn’t take long for the actress who played Emma to respond to it. Find out what she said and the big update when it comes to Friends and Netflix.
‘Friends’ is no longer on Netflix
Netflix paid $118 million for exclusive streaming rights of Friends. That deal officially ended and the show is no longer on Netflix after Dec. 31, 2019.
That meant many fans were upset to find it no longer available in this new year. They will have to wait until May for it be available on HBO Max. The good news is that there might be a reunion in the works too.
“I got [the cast] to do the James Burrows tribute special when I was at NBC. And all I will say is, ‘We’re talking about it.’ We’ve been drilling down on what it could be and trying to see if everybody’s really on board and interested. And if so, can we make the right deals for everybody. We’re starting it as a special,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of WarnerMedia Entertainment told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s possible there could be something ongoing, but it would be in steps. We’re far from that.”
The cast still keeps in touch. When Jennifer Aniston joined Instagram she posted a recent picture with Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Perry, and Lisa Kudrow. She captioned it with “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. Hi INSTAGRAM.”
Chandler Bing left Emma a message in 2020
In the episode, “The One With the Cake” Ross (Schwimmer) and Rachel (Aniston) threw a birthday party for their daughter, Emma (Noelle Sheldon.) The problem was she was taking a nap so the parents forced their guests to wait for her to wake up to start the party.
The parents had them record messages for the napping girl for her 18th birthday while they wait. Of course, Chandler had to crack a joke in his message. ” Hi, Emma. It’s the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?”
The episode actually aired in 2003. But fans have been bringing back Chandler’s message now that it’s officially 2020.
Noelle Sheldon posted a picture responding to the message
The actress posted a picture of herself holding a mug on Instagram with Central Perk behind her. She captioned it with “Just woke up from the best nap of all time, happy 2020!! (ft. my poorly done photoshop) Hope everyone has an excellent year full of family, friends, and laughter!!”
Fans who get the reference are commenting on the post. One wrote “okay this is legendary.” Another wrote “Iconic post lmaaooo.”
It looks like fans weren’t alone with remembering Chandler’s message. Sheldon also had fun looking back at the episode.
