A new report claims King Charles‘ recovery is taking center stage as Camilla Parker Bowles’s concerns over his health grow. The king is reportedly “frail” and overworked as he continues cancer treatment. This health concern is leading Camilla to try to get him to slow down. Will she be successful?

Is Charles’ health ‘frail’?

The Daily Beast‘s Tom Sykes reports that friends of King Charles are concerned he is “frail” and taking on too much of a workload in the wake of his cancer diagnosis earlier this year. The amount of royal engagements the king has undertaken has also reportedly worried his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles.

The news outlet reports Charles maintains a demanding schedule and is finalizing a tour of Australia this October. However, those close to the king, including Camilla, are reportedly worried he is taking on too much work.

The Daily Beast cites a source close to Camilla who says, “There is no way she would try to tell Charles what to do. She wants him to slow down; she is afraid he is working too hard, and that’s before you even get to the [upcoming] Australia tour.”

The news outlet cited a source who stated, “I think there has been a positive spin about the king doing well. Getting back to work and so on. But, you know, he has cancer. He is not well. He looked frail in Southport on Tuesday in my opinion.”

The source concluded, “You only have to look at photographs from now compared to a year ago and it’s obvious; he has lost a lot of weight and aged considerably. Camilla has been telling him to take a break. But he is a workaholic, he won’t listen.”

Why is Queen Camilla so worried about King Charles’ workload?

The Daily Beast detailed King Charles’ busy schedule during one week this summer. Charles attended a welcoming ceremony at Balmoral and, the following day, flew to Southport to meet with concerned residents whose town grieved the death of three children who attended a Taylor Swift dance class on July 29.

The outlet claims that Charles then traveled back to London the following day to meet with the victims’ families. He ended his week by meeting with his doctors to receive cancer treatment. That type of demanding schedule could be difficult for a man his age in good health.

Reportedly, those closest to the king are concerned that “frail” Charles is doing too much and, perhaps, could set back any progress he has made with his health thus far. Charles appears determined to keep the pace he maintained before finding out he had the disease in January 2024.

At 75, he should still be able to maintain a busy schedule, similar to that of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, who worked steadily until the age of 96. However, there appears to be a concern that if Charles doesn’t slow down and prioritize his health, he may have trouble keeping up the workload he craves.

Buckingham Palace has never disclosed the type of cancer King Charles has. He was initially hospitalized for an enlarged prostate.

It was during that period that cancer was found. However, the palace has not linked the cancer to the issue with his enlarged prostate.

Charles began cancer treatment in February 2024. Buckingham Palace released a statement which read, “No further details are being shared at this stage, except to confirm that His Majesty does not have prostate cancer.”

King Charles continues to fulfill his scheduled public engagements under the watchful eyes of his doctors. He does not appear to be “frail” as he meets those who have greeted him in the past several months.
