‘Friends’: The 3 Best Guest Stars To Appear on the Show
Friends was, at its core, about a group of friends learning to live on their own in New York City. The supporting cast, however, is what made the show truly special. Over its 10-season run, the show’s main characters, Monica Geller, Chandler Bing, Joey Tribianni, Ross Geller, and Rachel Green welcomed in friends, romantic interests, and even pets. Do you agree that these three were the best Friends guest stars?
The chick and the duck were perfect roommates for Joey and Chandler and two of the best ‘Friends’ guest stars
The chick and the duck never had any dialogue, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t amazing side characters. The duo appeared for the first time in season 3 of Friends. Joey initially purchased the chick after seeing a news segment. When Phoebe urged Chandler to bring the chick to the animal shelter, he learned how many pets are euthanized and brought the chick back home, along with a duck he met at the animal shelter. The two pets served as comedic relief regularly until they quietly disappeared.
The chick and the duck were last seen in season 6 of Friends. The last mention of either of them came in season 7. When the series ended, the gang revealed that the chick named Yasmin and the duck, who may have been named Dick, both died, but the gang opted not to tell Joey.
Monica Geller’s love interest, Dr. Richard Burke, is one of the best ‘Friends’ side characters
Monica Geller wasn’t exactly lucky in love for most of Friends. She still had several significant relationships, though. Dr. Richard Burke, an ophthalmologist who was friends with her parents, was one of them. Richard was kind, understanding, and incredibly sexy. The character also brought plenty of drama to the table. After all, the couple’s relationship with initially pretty clandestine.
Richard appeared for the first time in the second season of the show. He appeared nine more times. His final appearance, in season 6, threatened to destroy his “nice guy” persona, but Friends fans have mostly forgiven him. Some viewers think Richard was Monica’s perfect mate, not Chandler Bing. We believe it was someone else entirely. Either way, he was one of the best Friends guest stars.
Gunther was the perfect background character
Gunther was never supposed to be a supporting character. The Central Perk barista didn’t even have a name until the second season. Gunther was initially supposed to hang out in the background and help sell the idea of being in a real coffee shop. His facial expressions and his constant presence made him a fan favorite, though.
Gunther’s first line came in the show’s 33rd episode. It was just the word “yeah.” The role was expanded from there. Eventually, the character appeared in more than 100 episodes. To many fans, Gunther was an unofficial member of the main cast. Whether you agree with that or not, he was certainly one of the best Friends guest stars.
