‘Game of Thrones’ Seems to Follow Kit Harington Everywhere He Goes Years After Leaving Jon Snow Behind

Kit Harington made a name for himself playing Jon Snow on Game of Thrones for close to a decade. The role kickstarted his career and established his character as a pop culture icon. However, in the two years since the series finale, the fantasy show seems to be mentioned in Harington’s other work.

Kit Harington made a name for himself playing Jon Snow on Game of Thrones. From 2011-2019, the actor fought arctic zombies and waged wars against evil queens and wildlings.

The role kickstarted his career. While Harington has appeared in films of all genres, from animated to comedy to horror, the actor’s more recent projects still connect him to the show that started it all.

What has Kit Harrington been up to since filming ‘Game of Thrones?’

Since the last season of Game of Thrones aired in 2019, Harington has taken a bit of a break from acting. He briefly spent time in a mental health and wellness facility amid multiple controversies surrounding the show’s series finale.

In 2020, he starred in an episode of the Netflix Anthology series Criminal: UK. He also reprised his role as Eret in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. Like Game of Thrones, the film heavily features dragons. His animated character even looks like Jon Snow.

Modern Love is the actor’s newest project. However, the romantic comedy anthology series also has ties to his past.

A ‘Modern Love’ character makes a direct ‘Game of Thrones’ Reference

In season 2, episode 3 of Modern Love, Harington plays a tech analyst taking a train to Dublin. Aptly titled “Strangers on a (Dublin) Train,” the episode follows Harington’s Michael and Lucy Boynton’s Paula as they travel home at the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

After hitting it off but not exchanging phone numbers, the pair realize the pandemic may keep them apart.

Ironically, Boynton’s character is a medievalist or someone who specializes in medieval history and life. At one point, Michael tells his brother Declan (Jack Reynor) about Paula. He is met with this obvious Easter egg.

“What’s she studying,” Declan asks. “She’s a medievalist.’’

“Okay… So like Game Of Thrones and stuff?”

This could be a blatant reference from writer John Carney. However, Modern Love is based on The New York Times column of the same name, where real people write and talk about how they found love. It could be part of a true story.

Kit Harington’s role in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

Harington will appear as Dane Whitman in Eternals, out in November. Also known in the comics as the Black Knight, his character is described on Marvel’s official website as, “Burdened by a heavy past and wielding the Ebony Blade.”

Jon Snow wielded the sword, Longclaw, while he was commander of the Night’s Watch. He was also infamously one of the moodiest characters on the show. The Game of Thrones coincidences didn’t end there. Whitman also rides a horse and is defined by family drama, much like Jon Snow.

Harington acknowledged the similarities between the two characters on an Aug. appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “I googled him. He’s a character called Dane Whitman and he has a sword and rides a horse. And I was like ‘I know this guy. I’ve been this guy.’”

After laughing, Harington confirmed that his character in Eternals would be “quite different.”
