His other studio albums include Ropin’ the Wind (1991), The Chase (1992), In Pieces (1993), Sevens (1997), Gunslinger (2016), and Fun (2020). Brooks decided to retire from country music from 2001 to 2005. The singer wanted to spend more time with his family. Brooks said he planned to live in Oklahoma until his youngest daughter graduated from high school, reports Billboard. He slowly began returning to music in 2005.
During a 2016 interview with Billboard, Brooks says it took him more than a year to get back into the swing of things. He told the publication he was surprised by how long it took him to return to where he was before taking a break from music.
“When we came back, I was being humble saying, ‘Give me four to six months,’ said Brooks. “I [was sure] it would take me two weeks, but I wanted to protect myself. Four to six months in, I was nowhere close. I was stunned how long it took me to get back to playing.”
“It was New Orleans, Houston, right around then, which was July of last year,” he continued. “It probably took me 14 to 15 months to start to really kind of feel like, ‘OK, my legs are underneath me again now.’”
