CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King knows Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex quite well. King was a guest at Meghan’s baby shower for Archie in 2019 and spoke to the pair to see how they were doing following their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

King also discussed the most recent remarks the prince made during a podcast and pointed out the reason everyone should stop blaming Meghan for Harry leaving the U.K.

King says stop blaming Meghan because Harry admitted this

On the morning show King, Anthony Mason, and Vladimir Duthiers talked about the bombshell comments Harry made during his conversation with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast.

“I found it so interesting that Prince Harry went on the podcast which celebrates the messiness of life and that he would be so frank, is the word I would use,” Duthiers said (per Express). “And he thought about doing all of this when he was in his 20s, leaving the royal family.”

King then replied: “Because of what he said happened to his mother. Many people have tried to say that Harry is talking this way and feeling this way because of being married to Meghan Markle. He made it clear in that podcast that he has been thinking this way since his early 20s.”

Prince Harry told biographer he was happiest away from the royal family

The podcast wasn’t the first time the duke publicly admitted that he wanted to quit the royal family. Years earlier Harry told his biographer just that.

In 2017, Harry spoke to veteran author Angela Levin about his time in the military. He revealed those were some of the happiest times of his life because he was accepted as someone other than a royal.

“He said to me that he was the happiest in the army because he was just Captain Wales. He wasn’t Prince Harry,” Levin recalled to the Daily Mail. “He loved being out in Afghanistan. He was brought back because someone leaked that he was there and it became too dangerous for him and the soldiers.”

Harry confessed that he even considered quitting royal life then. “I wasn’t a prince, I was just Harry. I felt I wanted out but then decided to stay in and work out a role for myself,” he stated.

Harry is pleased with the reception his comments have received

Royal commentator Katie Nicholl said that the Duke of Sussex is actually quite pleased with how the comments from his interview with Oprah and during the Armchair Expert have been received.

“I think there is quite a lot of shock over here in the U.K. that Prince Harry went as far as he did,” Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. “I think the podcast certainly raised eyebrows over at the Palace. To have Prince Harry [instead of] build bridges, openly criticize his father and possibly even his grandparents, it is quite surprising.”

She added: “It does seem that this is yet another example of Prince Harry criticizing his father who of course came under some fire in that Oprah interview. My understanding is both with the Oprah interview and this recent podcast, Prince Harry feels both of them have gone down very well.”
