‘General Hospital’: Avery Pohl Says 1 Scene She Did Was ‘Very Difficult’ for Her to Watch
Avery Pohl is one of the latest additions to the cast of General Hospital. The young actor made her debut in August 2021 as Esme Prince, who seems to be out to torment various people in Port Charles.
Pohl has done many scenes so far on the show, though she says there is one scene in particular that she found “very difficult” to watch.
Avery Pohl recently joined ‘General Hospital’ as the scheming Esme Prince
Esme was introduced to Port Charles citizens as Spencer Cassadine’s (Nicholas Chavez) girlfriend, whom he met while studying in Europe. At first glance, Esme seems very polite and worldly. However, it didn’t take long before viewers discovered there was something sinister underneath her charming image.
In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Pohl described her character: “I usually start out by saying, ‘She’s the worst,’ just to give everybody a little warning. I say, ‘She’s very charming on the outside and quite manipulative and narcissistic on the inside. She will justify anything as long as it’s something that she feels entitled to.’ She’s a very interesting character to learn to empathize with!”
Indeed, despite acting kind to certain people, like Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla) and Ava Jerome (Maura West), Esme always seems to have something up her sleeves to make their lives miserable.
Avery Pohl says 1 scene she did was ‘very difficult’ to watch
Pohl is a great actor, but there were some scenes she did on General Hospital that she found “uncomfortable” to watch back. In particular, Pohl told Soap Opera Digest that she could not stand watching herself in one particular scene at Spencer’s house party in August.
“The first couple episodes I did, I’m just kind of walking around the hub at GENERAL HOSPITAL, but the first real scenes I got to watch were the ones with Nick on the turret and those were very difficult for me to watch, personally,” she said. “Watching yourself kiss someone on screen is just a very uncomfortable experience, and that was my first on-screen kiss as well, so I was just terrified about how it would turn out!”
Pohl added, “At first when I was watching myself, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not liking this’ or, ‘I’m not liking that’ about my performance, but a few more episodes in, I feel like I just see Esme and I’m not really thinking about the performance anymore. Which I’m hoping is a good sign!”
Eden McCoy says Avery Pohl is the ‘sweetest’ person in real life
Because Esme loves to scheme and ruins lives around her, it can be easy to believe that Pohl is similar in real life. However, Eden McCoy, who plays Josslyn Jacks and has been in many scenes with Pohl, once shared that Pohl is not the same as her character.
“Will I ruin “Esme’s” image if I tell you that Avery is LITERALLY the sweetest and coolest girl ever?” McCoy tweeted in response to a fan who said they did not like Esme.
In another tweet, McCoy also wrote about the actresses on General Hospital. She raved, “The women of #GH, both behind and in front of the camera, have the most generous and kindest of hearts.”
