‘General Hospital’: Cameron Mathison Reveals Why His Wife Is ‘Very Excited’ About His New Role as Drew Cain
General Hospital fans will soon see a new face on the screen. Actor Cameron Mathison—who used to play Ryan Lavery on All My Children—is joining General Hospital as Drew Cain. This is his first time returning to a soap opera in 10 years, and Mathison revealed there is an interesting reason his wife is ‘very excited’ about it.
Who is Cameron Mathison married to?
Mathison’s wife is Vanessa Arevalo, who was a model at the time when they were still dating.
Mathison proposed to Arevalo in the mountains of Colorado. The couple actually fell in love during a ski trip, so Mathison decided to do the proposal in a similar setting.
He told Your Tango, “We went up to the top of Vail Mountain in Vail, Colorado, and I took her up to this remote summit, which was a beautiful place to take photos… I pulled out the ring and turned around and proposed to her with the camera taking a ton of pictures. Then, I had a big champagne lunch waiting for us at the bottom of the mountain.”
Mathison and Arevalo tied the knot in 2002. Arevalo became a stay-at-home mom to their two children: Lucas (born 2003) and Leila (born 2006).
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Mathison also described Arevalo as “thoughtful and loving and supportive.”
Why Cameron Mathison’s wife is ‘very excited’ about his role on ‘General Hospital’
Mathison will now be working on General Hospital, and Arevalo is apparently “very excited” about it. This is because she really loves the show.
“My wife has actually always been a fan of ‘General Hospital,’” Mathison said on the podcast Dishing With Digest. “In fact, when she met me—when we met in a gym in New York—she had no idea who I was. I was a decently-popular character at the time on All My Children—no idea who I was. She only watched ‘General Hospital.’”
He added, “So she’s very excited I’m on the show.”
Cameron Mathison reveals Drew will give Sam a phone call
Mathison will make his General Hospital debut as Drew on Aug. 16.
According to a special sneak peek released by Entertainment Weekly, Drew will give Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) a phone call while she is having a cozy night at the Metro Court pool with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna).
Mathison explained to the outlet, “I don’t see Sam. I actually call her to say I’m in trouble. He reaches out for a good reason. She’s obviously incredibly important to him. They’ve got a child together, which the audience already knows, and that daughter is everything in the world to him. He reaches out to Sam because he really believes that help will follow.”
To recap, Drew went on a plane to Afghanistan in 2019 when his flight mysteriously vanished. It was found later, but no bodies were recovered. Now that Drew is returning, it seems viewers might finally learn what happened to him on that trip.
