‘General Hospital’: Eden McCoy Thinks She Got the Role of Josslyn Because of 1 Thing She Said During Her Audition
Eden McCoy currently plays Josslyn Jacks on General Hospital. She joined the cast in 2015 and has since become one of the main teenage faces on the show.
Looking back, McCoy can still recall the story of how she came to land the role of Josslyn. In fact, she shares that it might have had something to do with what she said during her audition.
Eden McCoy got into acting because of her parents
McCoy started acting as a child after her parents put her in theater camp to help combat her shyness.
“I was a really shy kid, according to my parents,” she shared in a 2017 interview with Soap Opera Digest. “My school was really keen on public speaking, and I never really wanted to perform or do any of that stuff, so my mom and dad signed me up for a theater camp. We put on a play at the end of the camp, and agencies came to scout for kids.”
When an agent approached McCoy, her parents were initially hesitant about letting her pursue professional acting. She said, “I really liked the camp and wanted to keep performing, so my parents said, ‘Well, if you play sports and get good grades, I don’t see why not.’ So we signed with an agency and I started auditioning.”
McCoy started out working mostly on commercials. She also got minor parts on shows for tweens and teens. When she was 12, a chance to be on General Hospital came.
Eden McCoy thinks she landed her role on ‘General Hospital’ because of 1 thing she said
During a new interview with Soap Opera Digest on the podcast Dishing With Digest, McCoy goes into detail about her audition for General Hospital.
She recalls that, during one of the final stretches of the audition process, she met with executive producer Frank Valentini and had a talk with him. It was here that McCoy believes she made an impression on Valentini.
“We talked for a while after [the audition],” McCoy says. “He asked me a bunch of questions. He asked me what my favorite TV show was, and I said 30 Rock because it was at the time and it is one of my favorite TV show.”
She explains that she has always been a fan of comedians like Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. McCoy continues, “I said 30 Rock and I’m like 12, and he’s probably thinking, ‘What the hell is this person doing. Like, who is this?’ But he loved my answer and I still believe that’s why I got [the role]. I think it just made me stand out from everybody else because I was such a weird kid growing up.”
Eden McCoy will go to USC for college but plans to continue acting as well
McCoy is now 17, which means she will soon enter college. She has decided to attend the University of Southern California to play volleyball for the school (McCoy is a nationally-ranked volleyball player).
On the podcast Dishing With Digest, McCoy shares that she will continue to act while attending college. After all, she has been balancing school and her General Hospital job for about five years now.
“It’s been a great experience overall… I love my job and I love those people and I want to stay,” McCoy says.
