Romance is everywhere on General Hospital, and sometimes love can blossom in unexpected places.

Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez) and Ava Jerome (Maura West) are two people who seem unlikely to hook up anytime soon. After all, they openly despise one another. However, could some level of attraction grow between them? Chavez shares his thoughts.

Spencer and Ava strongly dislike each other

Spencer and Ava have had a fraught relationship for many years now. For one thing, Ava played a role in making Spencer lose his inheritance from the Cassadine family. Things between them got even worse when Ava married Spencer’s father, Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma).

In 2021, when Spencer came back to Port Charles after studying in Europe, he and his new girlfriend, Esme Prince (Avery Pohl), decided to torment Ava. They set Ava’s car on fire and sent her creepy gifts. Spencer was later punished by the justice system for his involvement in these acts, and he and Ava continue to be at odds with each other.

Nicholas Chavez says there could be ‘sexual attraction’ between them

Whenever Spencer and Ava are in the same scene together, the two of them are often arguing and making it no secret that they cannot stand each other. However, according to Chavez, there could still be a possibility of them turning their hatred into love.

“Oh, I definitely think there might be some underlying sexual attraction between Spencer and Ava,” Chavez said (via Soaps.com). “I think it was Alec Baldwin who said that whenever he is on screen with someone of the opposite sex, he makes a point to look at them like a piece of chocolate cake. It accentuates the fact that whenever you’re talking with the opposite sex, there’s always the possibility of other emotions being at play, even if they’re buried deep, deep, deep within your subconscious.”

He also added, “Spencer grew up without a mother, and Ava is a mother figure, albeit a bad stepmother in his eyes. I mean, there’s a lot of Freudian psychology that comes into play there, but it’s not difficult to imagine there being something there.”

This would not be the first time Ava falls in love with a father and son duo. In the early and mid-2010s, Ava hooked up with Morgan Corinthos and then later cheated on him with his father, Sonny Corinthos.

While Spencer and Ava appear to be nowhere near hooking up, their significant others are closer to that line. Spencer’s girlfriend, Esme, and Ava’s husband, Nikolas, have recently been bonding a lot.

Earlier this year, Esme spread a sex tape of her friends Josslyn Jacks and Cameron Webber around their school. This led her to be questioned by Josslyn’s former stepfather and mob boss Sonny Corinthos. Nikolas came to her defense, and soon enough, Esme was able to manipulate Nikolas into letting her stay at Wyndmere Castle with the Cassadine family.

At Wyndemere, Esme has been playing the damsel-in-distress role and leaning on Nikolas. Esme and Nikolas have even shared some flirtatious moments when alone together. It’s not clear where this road will take them, but there is a very good chance things are about to get messy on Spoon Island.
