‘General Hospital’: Josh Swickard Followed 1 Important Love Advice He Got From His Dad Before Proposing to His Wife
General Hospital star Josh Swickard is known for his role as Detective Harrison Chase on the daytime soap opera. While Chase’s romances on the show can never seem to go right, Swickard has a different experience in real life.
Swickard has been married to his wife, actor Lorynn York, for a year and a half now. Before he proposed, Swickard decided to follow a love advice given to him by his dad.
How did Josh Swickard meet his wife Lorynn York?
Swickard and York met in 2017 on the set of the romance film Roped. They played the movie’s lead characters who fell in love with each other, and the two of them ended up falling in love themselves.
It was definitely a fateful experience, but York once revealed to Metro that she was not originally supposed to act with Swickard.
“The first time I met Josh was only two days before filming started because he wasn’t actually the first choice for Colton [the male lead],” York said. “The other person didn’t know how to ride horses so they ended taking Josh, and I’m so thankful about that.”

Parents often try to impart words of wisdom to their kids, and Swickard’s father did the same for his son. After Swickard began dating York, he knew there was something special about her. However, his dad advised him to take things slow.
“I never believed people when they said, ‘When you know, you know,’” he told Soaps In Depth. “And then I met Lorynn — and when you know, you know! I called my dad early on and said, ‘She’s the one.’ And his advice was, ‘Know a girl in every season,’ so I waited a full year. It actually has been about a year and a half… and she’s still the one!”
Swickard finally popped the question in late 2018 with both his and York’s families around.
“We were skiing in Beaver Creek with our families,” he recalled. “Her family has a tradition of playing charades, so I proposed during a game. After I acted it out, I said, ‘Well… this was not a charade.’ It was super cheesy, hokey and fun! They were all in on it, but we did a good job of keeping her out of the loop. She had no idea it was coming, so that made it all the better!”

Swickard and York did not stop working together after Roped. Recently, the couple decided to star in a Christmas film, called A California Christmas, which they filmed during the pandemic. York also wrote and co-produced the movie.
“During quarantine, Lauren and our friend Ali Afshar [who also stars] came up with this idea and Lauren just hit the ground running and cranked [a script] out in one or two weeks,” Swickard shared, according to Soap Opera Digest. “I kind of co-produced, but it was mostly just her running with it and us shooting out this fun, feel-good Christmas movie.”
A California Christmas was released on Netflix on December 14, 2020. It later became the number one film on the streaming platform.
