‘General Hospital’ Star Kirsten Storms Opens Up About Her Divorce From Brandon Barash
On General Hospital, Kirsten Storms’ character, Maxie Jones, has been through a lot of relationships and breakups. Although Storms’ life is not as dramatic as Maxie’s, she herself has been through a public divorce.
In 2016, Storms got divorced from fellow soap opera star Brandon Barash. She recently opened up about the experience and shared why their marriage ended.
Kirsten Storms and Brandon Barash divorced in 2016
Storms and Barash got married in 2013. A year later, the couple welcomed a daughter named Harper Rose.
However, their marriage ended in 2016. Barash told Soap Opera Digest at the time that they were splitting “amicably” due to “the cliché irreconcilable differences.”
Prior to their split, Storms and Barash also sought therapy. Storms shared, “We went to therapy for a long time, trying to figure out how to communicate better with each other. It’s not anything that we dislike about each other.”
“We’ve decided that raising our daughter in two separate homes would be a healthier choice for all of us,” Barash added.
Kirsten Storms recently opened up about the divorce
Storms recently appeared on co-star Maurice Benard’s mental health series State of Mind, where she spent some time talking about her divorce from Barash.
The actor shared that she and Barash were “good friends” for quite a while before they began dating. “Once we got married, it was obvious after a certain point that it wasn’t going to work on a romantic level,” Storms said.
“There’s stuff we don’t agree on,” she added. “We still butt heads at times … He and I are very different. He’s type A, and I’m a free spirit.”
She also put to rest a rumor that there was cheating involved in the breakup, noting, “That was never an issue in our relationship. I would not be talking to him now if he had cheated on me. We didn’t have a betrayal of any sorts like that.”
Kirsten Storms talks about co-parenting with Brandon Barash
Despite the breakdown of their marriage, Storms and Barash have managed to create a healthy co-parenting relationship. According to Storms, they both love Harper and always try to put her needs first.
“I’ve cried with Brandon in the last few years about feeling like Harper has a broken family, and she doesn’t have a lot of friends who have divorced parents,” Storms admitted. “But what I can do to better that for her is get along with her dad and his fiancée and be genuine and true in my actions and words with them. And through that, I have become good friends with both of them.”
At the end of the day, Storms and Barash have a lot of love for each other. Storms confessed that Barash has been there for her through thick and thin, even when “people I’m close to or related to have not.”
She added, “I’m thankful to him for a lot of things.”
