Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 returned fans to the world first laid out in Masamune Shirow’s manga series and its 1995 film adaptation, which was later explored in several other anime movies, series, and OVAs. Netflix’s exploration of this world throws fans far into the future, after the events of Stand Alone Complex.

Unfortunately, the newest addition to the science-fiction franchise left fans and critics wishing for more — at least if Rotten Tomatoes scores are anything to judge by. When Netflix’s continuation of the story came out, viewers had strong feelings about its CGI-heavy animation style, along with the execution of its political themes.

Despite Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 receiving a less-than-ideal response from viewers, the anime is getting a season 2. And it’s coming to Netflix relatively soon. On Feb. 24, the streamer revealed that the next batch of episodes will arrive in May 2022. It didn’t mention a specific date, but we’ll be waiting for updates on that front.

It’s unclear if the next chapter of this series will prove more successful than the first. But the teaser trailer does promise plenty of action on the horizon.

Netflix’s teaser trailer promises more action from the anime

In addition to revealing that its Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 anime returns for season 2 in May, Netflix dropped the first look at the coming episodes. While they stick to the animation style that sparked so much controversy, they also tease an outing full of action and suspense.

Set to the tune of “Secret Ceremony” by Millennium Parade, the trailer showcases several epic-looking fights. It also leans into the stakes and political messaging, so those hooked by the first season’s storylines will no doubt be waiting with bated breath to see how this one plays out.
