Ghostface Killah rose to fame in the 1990s as a part of the Wu-Tang Clan. Since then, the rapper has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry — and his passion for working with younger artists continues to this day.

Ghostface Killah has been in the music industry for decades

In the mid-1990s, Ghostface Killah was roommates with fellow rapper RZA. Together, they brought together seven other rappers to form the Wu-Tang Clan, including Raekwon, Method Man, and the late Old Dirty Bastard.

As the Wu-Tang Clan released hit songs throughout the late ’90s, the group’s members worked to make names for themselves on their own. Ghostface released his debut solo album Ironman in 1996, which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

In the early 2000s, he released albums including Bulletproof Wallets and The Pretty Toney Album. While he maintained his quick-fire rap abilities, he included elements of R&B and soul in his music.

Ghostface Killah wants to collab with Silk Sonic

As someone who has been a fan of R&B and soul sounds for over two decades, Ghostface is a fan of other artists who do the same thing. Among those are the new music duo Silk Sonic, comprised of hitmakers Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak.

In July 2021, Ghostface released an unofficial remix of their hit debut single “Leave the Door Open.” In a interview in November with HipHopDX, he revealed he wants to do more than just a remix: he wants to get in the studio with Mars and .Paak and record an entire project.

“Those are my beats right there,” Ghostface said of their songs. “Those are the beats they’re supposed to call me on and get on. You not supposed to leave me out of here. When I see Bruno, I’ma tell that n**** that you can’t leave me out of that s*** like that man.”

“I never hit them up because, first of all, it’s hard to get in touch with these guys,” he continued. “You can’t even DM them. They won’t see it unless they follow you. I wish I could get to them and talk to them and be like, ‘Yo let’s do shit. Let’s do a six-song project just for the fuck of it.’ It’s music now. Let’s just do it. I’m ready for it.”

Silk Sonic released their debut album in November 2021

In November 2021, Silk Sonic released their highly anticipated debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic. The album’s release was preceded by the singles “Leave the Door Open,” “Skate,” and “Smokin’ Out the Window,” with “Leave the Door Open” reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

With Silk Sonic’s sound and music videos, many have been grateful for the duo bringing many elements of old-school R&B and soul. The “Smokin’ Out the Window” video, for example, was reminiscent of performances that groups such as The Temptations would give, while the “Leave the Door Open” video was compared to an episode of Soul Train.
