Gigi Hadid Reveals Zayn Malik Often Sides With Her Mom Yolanda Hadid During Family Debates

Gigi Hadid, who is one of the most famous models in the world, also has a high-profile relationship with former One Direction member Zayn Malik. She recently revealed what her partner is like when dealing with her family, especially mom Yolanda Hadid.

Gigi and Malik began dating in late 2015. The couple’s relationship has a lot of ups and downs, with them often breaking up and getting back together.
In 2020, they welcomed a daughter named Khai.
Gigi and Malik have been living together. According to Hello Magazine, the pair splits their time between a place in New York and a ranch in Pennsylvania. Their Pennsylvania home is very close to Yolanda’s own ranch, which Gigi spends a lot of time at as well.
Gigi Hadid reveals how Zayn Malik behaves during their family debates
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Gigi reveals that Malik joins the Hadids for their many family gatherings. According to the model, Malik has also learned to navigate their lively discussions with ease.
“At first he was like, ‘How do I get a word in edgewise?’” Gigi said. “But now he is very comfortable. He speaks his mind.”
Additionally, Malik has also learned to get on Yolanda’s good side. Gigi shared, “When he’s in the middle of a family thing and everyone’s like, ‘Zayn, whose side are you on?’ He’s charming. He’s usually on my mom’s side. So he’s smart in that sense.”
Gigi also gave some insights into how the different personalities in her family come together.
“This is not to say that I don’t have a heart or Bella doesn’t have a brain, but when dealing with family stuff and world issues, my mom calls me the brain and Bella the heart,” she explained. “My brother is half and half. Whatever the family dinner-table discussion is, Bella will be very emotional and compassionate, and I’m sitting there pulling up charts and infographics, speaking very calmly.”
She also added, “My mom is just very Dutch and to the point. And my dad’s a storyteller—a bit goofy, but always connecting it back to, ‘Oh, you’ve heard the old Palestinian saying …’”

Gigi and her partner are examples of different cultures coming together. As Hadid shared with Harper’s Bazaar, her mother is Dutch and her father is Palestinian. Meanwhile, Malik was born in the United Kingdom to parents who are ethnically Pakistani, English, and Irish.
In an interview with i-D last month, Gigi talked about her desire to give Khai an appreciation of the many cultures in her family.
“We think about it and talk about it a lot as partners and it’s something that’s really important to us, but it’s also something that we first experienced ourselves,” Gigi said. “Because both of our parents are their own heritage. We are that first generation of those mixed races, and then that comes with that first generational experience of being like, ‘Oh damn, I’m the bridge!’.”
She continued, “That’s not something that my parents experienced or that they can really help me through. It’s something I’ve always thought about my whole life.”
