Gilmore Girls is one of those shows that fans can rewatch repeatedly. Some fans have seen the series multiple times. While many can recite episodes word for word, they haven’t figured everything out. Aside from plot holes and inconsistencies, there are several Gilmore Girls mysteries. Here are three of the most infuriating.

How did Mrs. Kim not know what Lane Kim was up to?

Season 1 of Gilmore Girls made it clear that Mrs. Kim was strict. Not only did she account for most of Lane Kim’s movements, but she wasn’t above spying and calling around to figure out what her teenager was up to. Still, Lane somehow managed to amass a huge collection of clothing, music, and makeup that was not mother-approved. Lane even admitted that she started the collection when she was 6 years old. That fun fact gives rise to a seriously bothersome Gilmore Girls mystery.

While it’s certainly plausible that a 16-year-old could hide some purchases from their parents, it seems unlikely that Lane, as a first-grader, was wily enough to get away with sneaking things past Mrs. Kim. So, if it did happen, how did Mrs. Kim never know? Gilmore Girls fans want to know.

Where exactly was Lorelai and Rory’s washing machine?

Lorelai Gilmore and Rory Gilmore’s house looks pretty big from the outside. When you stepped inside, though, it was small and cozy, with just two bedrooms and a single bathroom, though a second bathroom was added in season 6. The entire second floor appeared to house just Lorelai’s bedroom.

While the layout was all around strange, fans can’t figure out where the duo’s washing machine was located. Rory was seen, on more than one occasion, kicking a laundry bag out onto the back porch. But in season 2, Lorelai and Jess had a conversation on that same back porch, and there is no washing machine present. It would also be strange for an appliance like a washing machine to be outside, as Connecticut gets pretty cold in the winter. It is an unanswerable Gilmore Girls mystery.

Who told Emily about Sookie St. James’ pregnancy?

In season 4 of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai freaked out when she learned the interior designer she hired knew her mother, Emily Gilmore. Lorelai, paranoid and hypervigilant, was super concerned that Natalie was sharing information about Lorelai with Emily.

A stressed Lorelai believed her worst fears had come to pass when Emily somehow knew that Sookie was pregnant. Lorelai, convinced Natalie told Emily, approached Sookie about it. Sookie assured her that Natalie didn’t even know she was pregnant. Suppose that’s true. If Natalie didn’t tell Emily, who did? It’s not like she’s deeply connected to Stars Hollow.

While it’s a mystery that will likely never be solved, it does lend some credence to a wacky fan theory. A fan once suggested that Emily and Richard planted Kirk Gleason in Stars Hollow as a spy. He could have been on Richard and Emily’s payroll and fed information about Lorelai and her pals to the wealthy and slightly overbearing couple.
