‘Gilmore Girls’: 3 Spinoffs That Could Have Been Better Than ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’

As is often the case with reboots and revivals, 'Gilmore Girls' fans were mostly disappointed with the 2016 Netflix revival. While a revisit to the characters of Stars Hollow was very much wanted, there were others ways Amy Sherman-Palladino could have done it. A Spinoff focusing on the loved (or hated) side characters could have worked.

Gilmore Girls fans fall into one of two categories. They either loved the Netflix revival, or they wish it never happened. Those who hate the revival often think Amy Sherman-Palladino could have told a better story, and we don’t disagree. There are plenty of side characters who truly deserved a spinoff series. These are our three favorite options.

Paris Geller’s post-Yale life would have made an interesting Gilmore Girls’ spinoff

Paris Geller was the most interesting of Rory Gilmore’s pals. The duo had a complicated friendship. That’s mostly because Paris was such an intense and complex character. When fans reconnected with Rory in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, it wasn’t much of a shock that Paris was incredibly successful. It was equally unsurprising that Rory wasn’t.

It seems that Paris’ adult life was far more robust and interesting than that of Rory’s. A spinoff series that followed her as she got through medical school and launched her highly-successful fertility clinic could have worked. Her marriage and subsequent divorce from Doyle McMaster would have provided interesting background drama for this Gilmore Girls spinoff.

‘Gilmore Girls’ fans would like to learn more about The Huntzberger family

Gilmore Girls fans largely hated the Huntzbergers. Shira and Mitchum, along with the Huntzberger patriarch, were pretty insufferable. They were horrible to Rory, and they weren’t all that kind to Richard and Emily Gilmore either. Still, they were the most moneyed of all the characters in the show, or so it would seem.

It could have been incredibly interesting to delve deeper into that family’s dynamic and how they rose to such prominence. There appeared to be a ton of drama bubbling just beneath the surface, too, leaving plenty of possible directions to take a limited series. It could have worked as a niche Gilmore Girls spinoff, we think.

Logan’s life in London would have been a better focus for the revival

When fans left Logan Huntzberger in the finale of Gilmore Girls, he was headed to California to make it on his own. When they checked back in with him in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, he was engaged to a woman his parents approved of and working for his father. It’s clear that Sherman-Palladino never intended for Logan to break free from the Huntzbergers. Since she didn’t write his season 7 storyline, she just ignored it. A spinoff could have, theoretically, followed her plan for him. How Rory was incorporated into his life could have been easily included, making such a Gilmore Girls spinoff especially interesting.

While not everyone is a fan of Logan and Rory together, few viewers can argue against their on-screen chemistry. There was plenty of story left to tell, and a spinoff focused on Logan could have certainly injected enough fun and drama into a series to keep fans interested.
