‘Gilmore Girls’: An Extra Recalls a Sweet Moment with Lauren Graham

Lauren Graham spent seven years playing Lorelai Gilmore on 'Gilmore GIrls.' During her time on the show, she spent a fair bit of time chatting with extras. One extra recalled how concerned Graham was about the food offerings they were given while working on the show.

Lauren Graham spent seven years portraying Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls. She has had starring roles in other television shows since. Still, for fans of the famed series, she’ll always be the sassy but sweet Lorelai. According to an actor who worked as an extra on Gilmore Girls, Graham is just as kind as the character she portrayed. Recently, an extra shared her sweet experience with Graham on Scott Patterson’s podcast, I Am All In

‘Gilmore Girls’ was Lauren Graham’s breakout role

Graham’s very first acting job was not Gilmore Girls. The starlet had appeared in a variety of different shows and movies before the series came along. In fact, Graham almost missed out on Gilmore Girls because she was already connected to another project. In her book, Talking As Fast As I Can, Graham explained that she had filmed a pilot for another show when the script for Gilmore Girls hit her desk. She was instantly interested in the project.

The other pilot didn’t turn into anything significant, and she was given the green light to take on Gilmore Girls. The show was a moderate hit during its seven-season run and has amassed more and more fans since then. It turned out to be Graham’s breakout role, but far from her only success. Since Gilmore Girls, she has found success on Parenthood and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist

An extra recalled that Lauren Graham wanted to make sure the extras had donuts, too

On the most recent episode of I Am All In, a former extra sat down with Patterson to speak about her experience on the Warner Bros. lot. The extra, Carolvee Beckstrand, explained that she had worked on several different shows in the early 2000s when she snuck onto the lot to join the team of extras for Gilmore Girls. She became a regular extra, mostly serving as a background resident of Stars Hollow.

She went on to say that the entire cast was very warm and welcoming. Beckstrand shared a story about Graham to illustrate just how welcoming. She said that during a chat with Graham, the famous actor was super excited about the set having Krispy Kreme donuts. Graham suddenly grew concerned and asked Beckstrand if the extras were getting them, too. She confirmed that the extras did, in fact, also receive the coveted donuts. Beckstrand recalled thinking it was sweet of Graham to be worried about the extras’ food choices.

Will there ever be another ‘Gilmore Girls’ revival?

It has been 14 years since the series finale of Gilmore Girls and nearly five years since Netflix released its revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Still, fans are hoping for another installment on the streaming platform. While there was initially hope that a second season could happen, the further we get from the revival’s premiere date, the less likely a second season seems.

Still, the majority of the show’s cast has expressed an interest in returning to Stars Hollow once more. Patterson and Graham, who played on-screen love interests, Luke Danes and Lorelai, have both said they’d sign on to another revival. Milo Ventimiglia, the actor who played Jess Mariano, is also interested. So are Kelly Bishop and Keiko Agena. Bishop and Agena played Emily Gilmore and Lane Kim, respectively. So, why hasn’t it happened yet? Right now, it looks like a timing issue. That doesn’t mean there is absolutely no hope, though.
