‘Gilmore Girls’: Lauren Graham and Lorelai Gilmore Are Different in These 2 Very Important Ways
There were many years when Lauren Graham played a character that had a very interesting lifestyle, and that was Lorelai Gilmore. Her character had strong opinions on how she spent her time on Gilmore Girls. Graham in real life is different from her beloved character in two major ways.
Lorelai Gilmore wouldn’t cook or workout on ‘Gilmore Girls’
One of the most unrealistic things about Gilmore Girls is Lorelai and Rory’s (Alexis Bledel) lifestyle. They never cooked so their meals usually came from the refrigerated section of the grocery store, a restaurant, or was cooked by someone else.
They also notoriously never worked out. There were a few times when they tried to be active like in the episode, “A Vineyard Valentine.” They went to a gym and they had no clue how the machines worked, and ended up getting a massage.
Lorelai and Rory still managed to look the same throughout the series, and didn’t gain weight. Fans were able to suspend their disbelief to enjoy the show. After all, the episodes that heavily show women enjoying food without shame can be very comforting.
The cast sometimes ate to film dinner scenes
The Gilmore family had dinner together every Friday. The actors talked about what it was like filming scenes of their character eating.
“We had a lot of spit buckets ’cause we do many many takes and part of the comfort of the show is like ‘We’re having Chinese food night’ or Cheeto night or whatever and Pop-Tarts,” Graham explained to the Today show.
So the actors didn’t always eat when filming. What does the actress eat when she’s not working?
Lauren Graham is open about cooking and exercising
Graham played a character that was very much against cooking, exercising, and dieting. But the actor has been open about living a very different lifestyle.
“Sometimes ‘Ill think, ‘That was a really nice day. I ate well, I exercised, I called some friends, wasn’t working too hard,’ but I rarely have one of those. [Laughs.] They’re more often, ‘I’m too tired, I didn’t run as far as I wanted.’ And so thats something I’ve gained peace with,” Graham told Health.
She went on to say she eats protein and vegetables, which has been her diet for a long time. The TV star goes to spinning and pilates classes for exercise. Graham’s answer for what is her ideal Saturday night is something Lorelai would never say.
“Cooking for friends at my house—although I always break that rule about not trying to cook something new when you are entertaining, so the results can be mixed,” she answered. “Someday I will learn!”
Thankfully Lorelai ended up marrying a man who owns a diner. She now has someone to cook meals in their home. Graham, on the other hand, is very active and enjoys cooking.
