‘Gilmore Girls’ Is Now on Hulu, but How Long Is It Staying?
While Gilmore Girls gives off fall vibes, the winter has been incredibly eventful for fans of the beloved early-2000s dramedy. First, Lauren Graham, Sean Gunn, and Scott Patterson reunited for a Walmart commercial. Then, Lauren Graham offered up ideas for a potential spinoff series. Now, the network has found a new streaming home. Gilmore Girls has officially been added to the Hulu catalog, but how long will the series be staying, and what does it mean for its tenure on Netflix?
How long will Hulu have ‘Gilmore Girls’?
It’s official: Gilmore Girls fans have a brand new way to binge-watch the iconic series. Gilmore Girls was added to the Hulu catalog with a special holiday-themed episode playlist earlier this week. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the beloved show was added to Hulu’s catalog at 12 a.m. PST on December 15, and it isn’t going anywhere. For new fans, the curated holiday playlist is intended to get viewers in the spirit.
The announcement might have surprised some Gilmore Girls fans, but they will have plenty of time to get used to the idea. While the exact details of the licensing agreement are unavailable, it doesn’t appear that Hulu struck a short-term deal for the series. Gilmore Girls is here to stay on Hulu so that fans can watch at leisure.
While viewers can stream all seven seasons of the show on Hulu, they will need to hop over to Netflix to find out what happened to Rory and Lorelai after 2007. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, the 2016 revival of the beloved series, has not made its way to Hulu. Because the revival was created for Netflix, it will remain exclusive to that platform, at least for the foreseeable future. It’s unclear if Netflix will release a second revival season. There has been plenty of chatter over the years, but nothing has ever come of it.
Will the beloved series be leaving Netflix?
Fans who are not interested in dropping their Netflix subscription in favor of a different streamer have no reason to worry. They’ll still be able to access Gilmore Girls on Netflix. The addition of Gilmore Girls to Hulu doesn’t mean the series will be leaving Netflix.
According to Country Living, Netflix has the right to stream the series until July 2026. There is no indication that the streaming service provider won’t pay up to keep the series in its catalog after that date. It has been among the streaming provider’s most successful additions. It has graced the Top 10 list several years in a row. The much-discussed revival, Gilmore Girls: a Year in the Life, will remain on the platform until at least November 2026.
