‘Gilmore Girls’: Scott Patterson’s Only Watched 1 Episode — ‘I Don’t Want To See It’
Gilmore Girls is a pop culture phenomenon. Fans are still watching and re-watching the series more than a decade after it went off the air. However, the cast is a different story.
Scott Patterson, the actor who plays Luke Danes in the original series and the Netflix revival, has only watched one — yes, one — episode of Gilmore Girls.
Luke Danes is a beloved character on ‘Gilmore Girls’
Imagining Gilmore Girls without the surly diner owner is practically impossible. Luke is a Stars Hollow staple. His diner is where Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) eat at least once a day.
Plus, Luke is Lorelai’s central love interest. Initially cast in a guest spot, Patterson became a fixture after Amy Sherman-Palladino, the creator of Gilmore Girls, noticed the on-screen chemistry between the two actors.
Originally, Luke wasn’t even supposed to be on Gilmore Girls. Sherman-Palladino had a character named Daisy as the diner owner. Upon being told to add more male characters she made Daisy a man and cast Patterson in the role. The addition of Luke is one of the major casting changes on Gilmore Girls.
Scott Patterson won’t watch ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’
Patterson revealed he wouldn’t watch the Netflix revival during an interview with Vulture.
“I have not seen anything,” he said. “I haven’t seen an inch of footage. They won’t give me the code, they’ve locked me out, I’ve tried to break into the building and I’ve threatened people and they’re just not letting me see any of it. But I will not watch it.”
Patterson said he doesn’t like to watch himself on screen. Because of that, he said didn’t “want to see it” adding that he’s “not interested.”
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiered on Netflix in November 2016 as a four-part special. Patterson reprised his role alongside many other original cast members including Graham, Bledel, Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Melissa McCarthy (Sookie St. James), and more.
Scott Patterson’s watched the pilot episode of ‘Gilmore Girls’
More than 150 episodes of Gilmore Girls and Patterson’s only seen the pilot.
“I watched the pilot and that’s it. I haven’t seen anything else,” he told Vulture.
But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t seen bits and pieces. Patterson’s “seen clips” of Gilmore Girls but he refuses to watch his own scenes.
“I think it’s really fine stuff. It’s really funny great stuff, but I won’t watch myself,” he said. “I’ll watch everybody else’s. I’m big fans of everybody else on the show, I just don’t want to watch me. So, therefore, I don’t watch the show.”
Just because Patterson’s not watching Gilmore Girls doesn’t mean others don’t. Watch Gilmore Girls and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix.
