A Glowing Tika Sumpter Appears to Be Pregnant After Miscarriage
Since experiencing a painful miscarriage in 2021, Tika Sumpter has opened up to media outlets and fans about the trauma and grief that comes with the difficult experience. The mother of one has spent the past several years healing and focusing on her family. Now, the 44-year-old may have debuted a baby bump on the red carpet.
Tika Sumpter’s painful miscarriage
Tika Sumpter told SELF about her dreams of having a second child in 2021. The former Mixed-ish actor had Ella-Loren in 2016 with her then-fiancé, Nick James. They’d hoped to give their daughter a sibling. But Sumpter experienced a scary health incident shortly after getting pregnant. “I went to the bathroom. It was like something out of a horror movie,” she described. “… I remember being bowled over in pain by myself. I was literally on the floor like, ‘God, please take this pain away.'”
At first, Sumpter tried to push through the pain of her miscarriage as she was in a “time crunch” regarding filming. “I didn’t want to ruin it for everyone else,” she told SELF. After talking with friends, the Sonic the Hedgehog star realized that she needed to “sit” in the sadness, anger, and grief instead of taking care of everyone and everything around her.
Since then, Sumpter has focused on her marriage to James (they wed in 2022), her now-8-year-old daughter, and her dynamic career. On Sept. 12, The Haves and the Have Nots star attended Gold House’s inaugural One House Toast to the Emmys event. The nonprofit organization honored the 2024 multicultural nominees and achievements across filmmaking. Guests, including Sumpter, Sandra Oh, Anderson Paak, Awkwafina, and Shogun‘s Hiroyuki Sanada, fêted at The Maybourne Beverly Hills.
Is Tika Sumpter pregnant?
Sumpter donned a gold square-neck top, maroon midi skirt, and matching oversized blazer to the Gold House event. She wore her hair in a slicked-back ponytail, accessorized with gold earrings and rings, and carried a complementary gold and red square handbag. Perhaps most notable of Sumpter’s gorgeous ensemble was her subtle baby bump. The 44-year-old’s snug outfit showed off her curves and made fans wonder, “Is she pregnant after all of this time?”
Although The Nomads star hasn’t announced a pregnancy on social media, she has been working on a different “baby” over the last year. Sumpter and her husband launched a story-telling podcast called Adventures of Curiosity Cove, filled with “original stories, adventures and valuable lessons for kids. It hopefully will give parents a moment to breathe as well,” she explained via Instagram. Fans and little ones can listen via all podcast streaming platforms.
In addition to her podcast project, Sumpter recently starred opposite Snoop Dogg in the sports comedy film The Underdoggs. She’s also building her mom-focused newsletter and Instagram account, Fort Sumpter.
