The Golden Globes are always one of the most-talked-about events at the center of awards season. And though the awards — given annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) — are often the center of controversy, they continue to fascinate both fans inside and outside the industry. Now, once again, the time has come to discuss how fans can watch the movies nominated for some of the top prizes.

The 2022 Golden Globe nominations have been announced

On Dec. 13, 2021, Snoop Dogg and HFPA president Helen Hoehne announced the nominations for the 2022 Golden Globes. The news was revealed live on the award show’s website and YouTube channel. And as is often the case, many of the nominated films are hard for curious viewers to track down. The nominees for Best Picture — Non-English Language, for example, are a prime example of that.

The Finnish Compartment No. 6 is set to arrive in domestic theaters soon, as is the Iranian film A Hero. Meanwhile, Spanish entry Parallel Mothers and Japan’s Drive My Car are currently in limited release. Only The Hand of God is readily available to stream, as the Italian film hits Netflix on December 15. But what about some of the other major nominees, such as Belfast and The Power of the Dog? Well, let’s investigate.

Several leading nominated movies are available to stream on Netflix

Thankfully, the growing prominence of streaming services in the awards conversation means that several key nominated movies are available to watch at home. In the Best Motion Picture — Drama category, only Belfast and Dune are exclusive to theaters right now. CODA is an Apple TV+ release, while King Richard and The Power of the Dog are available on HBO Max and Netflix, respectively.

On the Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy side of things, only Netflix’s tick, tick… BOOM! is streaming online. But Don’t Look Up soon hits Netflix on December 24. Meanwhile, Licorice Pizza expands into a wide release on Christmas Day, and Cyrano begins its limited release on Jan. 7, 2022. Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is currently playing everywhere, including in select IMAX and Dolby Cinema theaters.

Where to find the Best Picture — Animated nominees

Lastly, most of the Best Picture — Animated nominees are available to stream, thanks to Disney’s domination of the category. Both Raya and the Last Dragon and Disney and Pixar’s Luca are streaming on Disney+. Disney’s Encanto joins the streaming service on December 24. Meanwhile, the animated documentary Flee and My Sunny Maad are both in the middle of their limited theatrical runs.

Of course, the availability of the Golden Globe-nominated films is subject to change. In the meantime, fans have plenty of films they can check out at their leisure. The 79th Golden Globe Awards is currently scheduled for Jan. 9, 2022, though it’s unclear whether the show will be televised following the ongoing boycott of the HFPA.
