Is ‘Goliath’ Canceled? Why the Billy Bob Thornton Series Ended With Season 4
Goliath has come to an end. The recently released fourth season of the Billy Bob Thornton legal drama was the last for the Amazon Prime Video series. Thornton has said it felt like the time was right to bring the story of his Billy McBride character to a close.
‘Goliath’ Season 4 was the show’s last
Goliath was renewed for a fourth season way back in November 2019, shortly after season 3 was released. At the time, Amazon made it clear that the upcoming season would be the last, Variety reported.
“Goliath has been one of our most popular shows ever on Prime Video,” said Vernon Sanders, the co-head of television at Amazon Studios. “We’re happy that our customers around the world will have a chance to see Billy McBride bring this final chapter to a close on Prime Video.”
Why Billy Bob Thornton didn’t want to do ‘Goliath’ Season 5
Because of production delays related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it took nearly two years for the final season of Goliath to arrive. In the show’s last episodes, Billy takes on the pharmaceutical industry, working with his former law partner Patty Solis-Papagian (Nina Arianda) to take down a company profiting off of the deadly opioid epidemic.
In an interview with Newsweek, Thornton reflected on the decision to bring Goliath to a close.
“There’s something about when series go a bridge too far, you know,” he said. “We knew that this season was very strong and it seemed right to end it here.”
Still, he said he’d miss playing Billy.
“I’ll miss the cast and crew but also being able to play a character that was closer to who I am than most characters I played. If I were a lawyer in LA, I’d probably be Billy McBride,” he said.
“I’m gonna miss being able to go to work and just kind of be myself,” he added.
Thornton, who won a Golden Globe for playing Billy McBride in Goliath Season 1, also said that he’d only signed on to do four seasons of the show.
‘Goliath’ star Tania Raymonde reveals what she’ll miss about the show
Tania Raymonde played prostitute-turned-investigator Brittany on all four seasons of Goliath. She told Newsweek she’d miss working with Thornton.
“I’ll miss scenes with Billy [Bob Thornton] and the moments with Billy [McBride] and Brittany when they’re not saying anything. They’re kind of like karmic souls,” she said. “I feel like we’ve known each other in another lifetime. There were so many moments on set with Billy where nothing was being said but I feel like we were having a whole conversation, and I don’t know if I’ll ever experience that again.”
In an Instagram post, Raymonde also reflected on spending five years working on Goliath.
“I will never ever forget these people, and working with them all for the last 5 years has been the greatest privilege of my life,” she wrote.
Goliath Season 4 is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
