‘Gotham’: Why Nygma and Cobblepot’s Last Scene Together Will Be Emotional
Chances are most characters on Gotham this last season will have an emotional scene with someone else. That’s because there have been some strong relationships that have been formed over time. One relationship that fans have been drawn to
The Cheat Sheet talked to the cast of Gotham at the Paley Center on Dec. 13, 2019. This is what Cory Michael Smith had to say about how the two characters leave off.
Cory Michael Smith said he will miss working with Robin Lord Taylor
The actor talked about what it feels like to leave Nygma and Cobblepot behind. “That’s maybe the most bittersweet part of the show for me because I love working with Robin so much,” the Nygma actor told The Cheat Sheet. “We have a really good time doing it and it’s been consistently my favorite stuff on the show has been with him.”
He then continued saying, “It’s been the most difficult in a good way you know emotionally. Just the relationship is so kind of tragic at times and yet their alliance is really strong. So there’s a lot of emotion built up in there.”
He teased that one of their last scenes is very emotional
It sounds like the possible last scene between the two Gotham villains will carry the weight of their relationship. There also
“I thought what was going to be the last scene was very, very emotional to do,” said Smith “and it just happened that the things that we were saying to each other in character kind of like what we would say to each other in real life. Just about loving each other and accepting each other for who we are and why we work so well together. It was a nice tribute to say in character but also to Robin.”
Fans don’t just have their last words to look forward to. Both characters will also fully transform by the end into how the iconic Batman characters are known to be.
Robin Lord Taylor told The Cheat Sheet that Cobblepot will look more like the Penguin by the end of the season by getting a gut and more features.
“I get a fat suit,” the actor told The Cheat Sheet. “I got the top hat, I got the tie, I got the monocle. Yeah, the umbrella the whole thing. That was so nice because you know we always felt very legitimate with inhabiting those characters but then at the same time getting the opportunity to physically embody the Penguin the way it was initially designed was just an amazing dream. I’m so grateful.”
Nyma, on the other hand, will also get another look to become more like the Riddler. So their final transformations and their emotional scene are definitely things to look for to this final season.
