‘Grace and Frankie’: June Diane Raphael and Brooklyn Decker Were Both Pregnant During Filming
Grace and Frankie was first released to Netflix in 2015. The show follows the antics of two older women after their husbands leave them to be together. Though the show revolves around Grace and Frankie, their children are also an important part of the show. Brooklyn Decker and June Diane Raphael play Grace’s daughters in the series. The two were both pregnant while filming some of the earlier seasons of Grace and Frankie.
Raphael and Decker play sisters on ‘Grace and Frankie’
Raphael plays Grace’s oldest daughter Brianna. Her character is mean, intelligent, and business savvy. Brianna takes over Say Grace, the beauty company that her mother founded, after Grace retires. Brianna dates Barry, a former accountant at Say Grace, throughout the series. Brianna is not the best with relationships, especially at the start of the series. She also insists that she does not want children.
Decker plays Brianna’s younger and much nicer sister, Mallory. Mallory had a relationship with Coyote as a teenager that resulted in an unwanted pregnancy and abortion. As an adult, Mallory is a dedicated mother of four. She divorced her husband Mitch back in season 3 knowing that neither of them was happy in the relationship. Brianna loves being a mother and is well-suited for the job, unlike her own mother.
Raphael and Decker were both pregnant while filming
During filming for season 3 of Grace and Frankie, Raphael was pregnant with her second son. Costume designer Allyson Fanger had her work cut out for her hiding Raphael’s baby bump. “I shot this last season [of Grace and Frankie] very pregnant. I literally finished filming I think on a Friday and then had a C-section on a Tuesday,” Raphael told ET News. “I mean, when I say I was pregnant, I was pregnant. So it certainly had its challenges.”
Decker was also pregnant while filming Grace and Frankie. Unfortunately, this pregnancy didn’t coincide with her character’s pregnancy with twins in the series. “What was so crazy was, [Brooklyn] was playing pregnant [on the show], but wasn’t [in real life], and then when she was pregnant [in real life], she wasn’t playing pregnant,” Raphael continued. “It’s all been so incredibly confusing.”
‘Grace and Frankie’ Season 7 has resumed production
Filming for Grace and Frankie season 7 was delayed for quite some time because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Luckily the team was able to finish four episodes before filming was shut down. The first episodes of season 7 dropped to Netflix in August.
The rest of the final episodes of Grace and Frankie are anticipated for next year. Raphael recently told People that the cast had just finished filming the 13th episode. Season 7 will have 16 episodes in total, so filming for the series is nearing its end. At least Fanger did not have to deal with covering up any baby bumps this time around.
