‘Grace and Frankie’ temporarily shut down filming due to the coronavirus pandemic

Many TV shows and movies experienced filming delays due to the pandemic, but Grace and Frankie needed to be especially cautious. The show’s four main cast members are a part of the high-risk population. Sam Waterston, Martin Sheen, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin are all in their 80s and needed to be cautious before returning to set.

The cast and crew of Grace and Frankie managed to finish four episodes of the series before production shut down. These episodes dropped to Netflix in August 2021. Now, Grace and Frankie Season 7 is finally returning. According to Newsweek, Fonda wrote in her blog of the delay, saying “A long time to wait but, given the age and vulnerability of the 4 leads, it’s best. I’ll be headed into 84 by the time we’re done. Yikes!”

When does ‘Grace and Frankie’ Season 7 return?

Today Netflix announced that Grace and Frankie Season 7 part 2 will drop on Friday, April 29. There will be a total of 12 more episodes to round out the end of the series. Grace and Frankie will also be making history as the longest-running Netflix original series to date.

For seven years fans have followed the heartwarming and hilarious story of Grace Hanson and Frankie Burgestein, whose lives are turned upside down when their husbands leave them for each other.

The series is revolutionary and not just for its 94 episodes as a Netflix original. It’s also one of the few shows out there with protagonists over the age of 70 who deal with dating, business endeavors, and wild adventures. Many fans will undoubtedly be sad to bid the show farewell.

Lily Tomlin once shared how she hopes the show will end

Throughout the years, Grace and Frankie have gone through it all together. From doing mushrooms to selling yam lube this duo has had quite a few adventures. Lily Tomlin once shared with Variety that she envisioned herself and Jane Fonda “going out swinging” as the show comes to an end.

“I’m hoping that we come to some epiphanous, profound realization because of our age,” Tomlin told Variety. “A realization of how much we might owe to other people on the planet, how much we might have fixed things for the kids that are coming. We want to make it funny and heartfelt and fix the world. It doesn’t look good for the kids right now, and Jane (Fonda) and I will probably escape the vicissitudes of it, but we want to say something to those who won’t.”
