Grammys 2022: Billie Eilish’s Brother Finneas O’Connell Could Win Album of the Year Without Her
Since their win at the 2020 Grammy Awards, Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish have been an unstoppable duo. The dynamic siblings have made music together for the last six years, and the Recording Academy continues to honor their labor.
O’Connell, also known by his stage name of FINNEAS, has been tied to his sister’s work for the most part. However, the singer/songwriter/producer’s luck is changing. O’Connell could win an Album of the Year award without her.
Brother/sister duo Finneas O’Connell and Billie Eilish have collaborated from the beginning
FINNEAS and Eilish’s music careers have been connected ever since the two burst onto the scene in 2016 with singles like “Ocean Eyes” and “Bellyache.”
The two worked together for the whole of When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which topped U.S. and UK charts. O’Connell won 2020 Grammy awards for Song of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Non-Classical Record of the Year for his sister’s single “Bad Guy.” He also won Album of the Year and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for the same 2019 album.
O’Connell and Eilish were nominated three times at the 2021 Grammys for Record of the Year, Best Song Written for Visual Media, and Song of the Year. “No Time to Die” won Best Song Written for Visual Media bringing their Grammy award wins to a total of 13; Eilish took home six, and O’Connell took home seven.
FINNEAS has been nominated for two albums this year
The 2022 Grammy Awards are almost here, with the Recording Academy releasing the list of nominees in 2021. Eilish has been nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album for her album Happier Than Ever.
O’Connell, aka FINNEAS, has been nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for Eilish’s album Happier Than Ever. The 24-year-old has received two more nominations: Album of the Year for the Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe) album by Justin Bieber and Best New Artist for his song “What They’ll Say About Us.”
If O’Connell wins Album of the Year with Bieber, it’d be his first time receiving recognition sans his sister’s work.
Finneas O’Connell works with many hard hitters in the music industry
Ever since he and Eilish entered the spotlight, O’Connell has worked with several A-list singers, reports Insider. The LA native has also worked with former Disney star Selena Gomez. He produced her 2019 single Lose You To Love Me, which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
O’Connell produced two singles for former Fifth Harmony member Camila Cabello’s 2019 album Romance. He produced Ashe’s single “Moral of The Story” and has worked with John Legend on a forthcoming single.
Eilish’s brother also worked on Kid Cudi’s album Man On The Moon III: The Chosen. He co-wrote and co-produced the first song, “Beautiful Trip,” as well as “Sept 16,” the 12th song. Clocking in at just 37 seconds, “Beautiful Trip” is historically the shortest song to ever chart on the Billboard Hot 100. He also worked with Bieber on his album Justice, which is up for a Grammy this year.
