‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Are Ellen Pompeo and T. R. Knight Friends in Real Life? — The Answer is Clear Now
After the deep conversations between Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and George O’ Malley (T. R. Knight) on Grey’s Anatomy, fans are still crying. However, many viewers might be wondering if the two actors are friends in real life. Showrunner and executive producer Krista Vernoff revealed the answer in a recent interview.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ saw the return of George O’ Malley to Meredith Grey
On Dec. 3, 2020, Grey’s Anatomy brought George O’ Malley to Meredith Grey’s unconscious state. She is still sick with COVID-19; however, the illness is a highlight for fans who wanted to see Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and George again. The two characters died in past seasons but have returned to help Meredith decide whether she is ready to leave her earthly body or not.
Derek and Meredith’s conversation hasn’t gone very far yet; however, George and Meredith spoke at length about life and death. Meredith believes her children would be fine if she died; however, George tells her that his mother never got over his death.
“I think maybe with them it’s different,” George told Mer about her kids. “My mom didn’t go on.”
Then he described the many things he misses about being alive.
“That’s what I miss about being alive, dancing until you drop,” he said. “Laughing until you cry. The crunch of cereal as you eat it from the box. The feel of clean sheets and a good pillow after a long day.”
By the end of the episode, many fans were in tears over the two old friends’ conversation.
Are Ellen Pompeo and T. R. Knight friends outside of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
On March 6, 2020, photographers spotted Pompeo and Knight hanging out together in Los Angeles, California. According to Yahoo, they also reunited again in June for a protest against police brutality. The two took a knee in the photos, and Knight held a “Black Lives Matter” sign.
The two often comment on each other’s social media posts. Vernoff commented on their relationship in an interview with Deadline.
“Ellen and T.R. are close,” Vernoff told the outlet. “George and T.R. were both always favorites of mine, and so he was my first idea of, as a fan, who do I want to see again? I wanted to see George, so that’s where it started.”
Knight says he and Ellen are closer than George and Meredith
In an Instagram post, Knight told fans how close he and Pompeo are, and it’s touching.
“Ellen is the kind of actor I’m endlessly grateful to act with,” Knight wrote on Instagram after he appeared on Grey’s Anatomy on Dec. 3. “She’s the embodiment of truth. George and Meredith love each other, for sure, but I don’t think he can hold a candle to the love I have for Ellen.”
Pompeo responded with, “I’m so lucky to have a friend like you.” There’s no doubt about the fact that these two are best friends.
