‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Who Is Dr. Kai Bartley? Fans Think E.R. Fightmaster Is Playing Amelia’s New Love Interest
Grey’s Anatomy is showing Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) making a big change, and Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) is going to help her. They met Dr. Kai Bartley (E. R. Fightmaster) who might be part of that journey, and fans already think they’re a new love interest for Amelia.
Who is Dr. Kai Bartley?
The new Grey’s Anatomy episode “Some Kind of Tomorrow” continued to show Meredith in Minnesota considering a new job. She would be working on a cure for Parkinson’s disease, and would have more money and resources. She asks Amelia to visit her because she would want her on her team.
Amelia examines Dr. Hamilton (Peter Gallagher) and asks him about his meds. He makes it clear that he wants a cure and not a Band-Aid. Amelia later looks at their equipment and that’s when she meets Dr. Kai Bartley, who asks her to please not touch it.
“Please meet Dr. Kai Bartley, a neuroscientist who accepted an offer they couldn’t refuse,” Dr. Hamilton told Meredith and Amelia. Meredith said she has been reading Dr. Bartley’s stem cell research. Amelia calls their work “brilliant.” Dr. Bartley said teaming up with Dr. Hamilton helped them make a new discovery. Amelia was quick to accept Dr. Bartley’s offer after the meeting. But Meredith wasn’t quite sold.
Amelia later says the money, unlimited time, and the chance to cure this disease sounds great. But Meredith is on the fence because they have kids and stability back at Grey-Sloan. Meredith is also scared to fail.
Meredith, in the end, accepts Dr. Hamilton’s offer on the condition that she picks her team, their findings become public, and she works from a satellite lab in Grey-Sloan while flying to Minnesota once a week. He agreed.
E.R. Fightmaster had a role on ‘Shrill’ before ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
E. R. Fightmaster plays the new doctor. The actor was in a few shorts, then appeared as themself in a series called Tales from the Closet.
Their first acting role was playing Emily on Shrill, according to IMDb. Emily was a non-binary character who has a relationship with Fran (Lolly Adefope). Fightmaster was then in two episodes of Work in Progress as Alexis.
They also are part of a garage rock duo called Twin with Mike Aviles. Now it looks like the actor might stick around on Grey’s Anatomy.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans think Dr. Kai Bartley will be Amelia’s new love interest
Shondaland TV’s account tweeted, “Dr. Kai Bartley’s pronouns are they/them!! Please tweet accordingly #GreysAnatomy.” Fans started replying to the tweet. Some pleaded for Amelia to not get with the doctor because they’re rooting for Amelia and Dr. Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) to work things out. Other fans think Amelia already has a crush on the new hotshot neuroscientist.
The previous episode showed Amelia and Atticus struggling after his proposal. Amelia never wants to get married and felt pressured to say yes. By the end of the episode, he asked her to marry him again and she said no. He then told Dr. Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) that they’re over.
It looks like Amelia will be seeing the doctor again to help Meredith with her research. Only time will tell if anything will happen between her and the new doctor.
