Grey’s Anatomy is back for season 17, and Kim Raver hopes her character, Teddy Altman, redeems herself. Last season, fans watched as she ruined what she had with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) by cheating on him with Tom Koracick (Greg Germann).

‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Teddy slept with Tom one last time before Owen left her at the altar

Throughout season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy, Tom continued pining over Teddy until she finally gave in and began sleeping with him. He tried desperately to convince her to run away with him.

“Don’t throw your life away, Teddy,” Tom told her the day she was supposed to marry Owen.

He said he would be waiting for her in his car that evening so they could drive down the coast together. His proposal was so heartfelt that she gave in to her lust for him and slept with him one last time. Teddy even told Tom that she loves him, too.

She accidentally called Owen while having sex with Tom, except Teddy didn’t know she did it. An intern answered the phone on speaker while Owen was performing surgery. The doctor played it off as if Teddy was leaving him a last-minute wedding tease. However, he knew the truth.

“I can’t leave with you,” Owen heard his fiance say to Tom when he played the entire voicemail in private. “I am marrying Owen. This was ‘Goodbye.'”

Except instead of going home to marry Teddy, Owen claimed to get pulled into a last-minute surgery. The season finale ended with no resolution for the couple.

The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 16 finale was supposed to end differently

When the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit the United States, television studios were forced to shut down production in mid-March 2020. So, instead of filming three more episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, the producers had to make episode 21 the finale of season 16.

“We didn’t mean to end right on Teddy just doing the worst thing possible,” Kim Raver told Entertainment Weekly on Nov. 11, 2020.

Instead of continuing with the planned ending of season 16, the showrunner and producers have told fans they will begin in full-blown COVID-19. So, instead of work through their feelings and healing, Teddy, Owen, and Tom have to put their healthcare job first.

Kim Raver is upset with Teddy Altman

“I think it’s interesting that it’s a woman going through this because there seems to be more forgiveness when it’s a man,” Raver began. “I know that the fans are very upset, and I’m upset with Teddy.”

The actor is not happy with her character. However, she likes how the show highlights that people need to work on themselves.

“There’s a universal thing of when you have what you want, the healthy people make it blossom, and the people that need work kind of blow it up,” she added. “And I think we’ve all been there. It’s so true to Grey’s Anatomy that people are messy. Everyone is so messy. And I think that that is really the beautiful thing of the show is that they have their shining moments and then they have their very ugly human moments.”
