Chandra Wilson has been playing Miranda Bailey on the ABC drama Grey’s Anatomy for almost 20 years now. We have had seasons where we hated Bailey and many where we loved her. 

Fans hate the Bailey of season 17 for firing four of our favorite characters from Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. That was until we found out that she is pregnant. Now, fans are dying to know if Wilson is also expecting in real life. Read on to get the scoop about Bailey’s off-screen life. WARNING Season 17 SPOILERS!

How did the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ producers reveal Bailey’s pregnancy?

In episode four of season 17, Bailey is on the warpath. She is fired up about the article in which Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) spoke poorly of the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. Bailey is taking out her anger on everyone.

Jo Wilson notices Bailey’s fury and asks if her heart condition is acting up. Bailey does admit she seems very stressed and agrees to get checked out. Luckily, her heart is healthy.

Just as Bailey is hormonally screaming at Meredith to get out of her office, Maggie walks in. We finally find out why Bailey has been so incredibly moody this season. She’s pregnant, too! If you didn’t remember, Amelia is also pregnant. 

Wilson was pregnant in real life in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 2

Wilson’s third child, Michael, was born in 2005 during the filming of Grey’s Anatomy. For the second season, Shonda Rhimes wanted to focus on what was going on in Bailey’s personal life. Since Wilson was pregnant, they just went with it. 

Wilson is not married but has been in a relationship for 31 years. She and her longtime partner have three children together. Wilson’s oldest daughter, Sarina is now 26 years old. Wilson went back to acting just five days after Sarina was born. 

Wilson’s second daughter, Joylin was born in 1998. Wilson worked nights and weekends while her two daughters were sleeping so she wouldn’t miss any time with them. She prepared presentations for Deutsche Bank from 1996 to 2004. 

Could ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star Wilson be pregnant in real life in season 17?

Since Rhimes has worked Wilson’s pregnancy into the storyline of Grey’s Anatomy before, she might be doing it again. 

However, it sounds like Bailey might not want to combine her work with family life so tightly again. In a 2007 interview with Working Mother, Wilson explained, “Since I was breastfeeding, I brought him to the set, where he spent most of the time in the trailer napping or playing with the babysitter. I tried to be with him whenever I could, but some days I’d have to pump so that we could move ahead with production.”

Her children are currently 26, 21, and 14, so it would be a significant age gap since having her third child. However, we do see families starting over again with new babies all the time.

Wilson does not have an Instagram or Twitter account at this time. She keeps her children out of the media spotlight as well as her personal life. No one has confirmed at this time that she is or is not pregnant in real life. 

We will have to wait and see if she announces an off-screen pregnancy. In the meantime, we can watch Bailey’s pregnancy unfold Thursday nights on ABC on Grey’s Anatomy at 8 p.m. eastern.
