Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 just teased a new storyline for Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), and ABC is already dropping some major clues. Following the all-new episode on April 15, many viewers speculated that Jackson’s next arc will involve April Kepner (Sarah Drew) or Robert Avery (Eric Roberts) in some capacity. Now, it seems the network confirmed a few fan theories. Here’s what we know so far.

In Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 12, tited “Sign O’ the Times,” Jackson left on an 11-hour road trip. However, the ABC medical drama did not confirm the character’s destination. Thus, many viewers theorized Jackson was headed to April or Robert.
Back in March, Grey’s Anatomy confirmed Drew’s return as April in season 17. So following the April 15 episode, many viewers wondered whether a Japril episode was on its way. However, some individuals remembered that April currently lives in Seattle. Therefore, it seems more likely Jackson will reunite with his father, who lives about 11 hours away in Bozeman, Montana.

Now, it appears ABC confirmed Jackson and Robert’s reunion in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 14, titled “Look Up Child.” The press release for the new May 6 episode revealed Roberts will guest star as Jackson’s father.
Meanwhile, the synopsis for season 17 episode 14 reveals how Jackson’s reunion with Robert will impact his storyline moving forward.
“Jackson pays a visit to his father that helps set him on the right path on a new episode of Grey’s Anatomy,” the synopsis says.

Roberts isn’t the only guest star in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 14. On April 16, Drew revealed she’s returning to the show in the new May 6 episode. The ABC press release also confirmed her appearance in “Look Up Child.”
That said, the Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 14 synopsis didn’t tease whether April’s cameo will involve a moment with Jackson. But the network released photos of the exes together. So fans can expect some Japril scenes.
Meanwhile, Kim Raver (who plays Teddy Altman) recently described Drew’s return as a “shining light” in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17. Then Camilla Luddington (who plays Jo Wilson) suggested that April’s appearance will “set things in motion” for Jo and Jackson.
