The ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 Finale Will Open the Door to ‘Reinventing Everything,’ According to Sarah Drew
Grey’s Anatomy is known for explosive finales, and it might have another one. Sarah Drew teases the season 18 finale by saying the cliffhanger could reinvent the whole show.
Grey-Sloan’s fate will be revealed in the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 finale
The hospital has been struggling in season 18. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) focused on his Webber Method in hopes of improving the training program. But there were several missteps, which led to Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) almost quitting and his mom reporting the program. After a review, the hospital’s program was put on probation and had to improve, or else the program will be shut down.
The finale will reveal if the program makes the cut. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) is back and will cover the pit. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) returns too. A military patient threatens to expose Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) for illegally assisting the death of a veteran.
The finale ends with the possibility of ‘reinventing everything’ next season
Grey’s Anatomy finales are usually dramatic. But Drew revealed season 18 could have enormous consequences for the show’s future.
She answered if there was a massive cliffhanger. “Yes,” she told Extra TV. “Massive cliffhanger!” The actor said, “I read the episode, and at the end, I was like, ‘So wait…so how is everybody coming back?’ Like how is the whole show coming?”
Drew clarified she didn’t mean characters. “It definitely leaves giant question marks as to what–and a huge open door for reinventing everything if one wanted to,” she said.
Will Grey-Sloan’s program get shut down?
Drew’s comments could lead to some interesting theories. If the cliffhanger poses the question of how the whole show is coming back, that could mean the training program will be shut down. That would lead to the question of how all of those doctors who are learning will come back if they have to go to other hospitals.
It’s also possible that Owen will get exposed. If so, he might have to face some big legal consequences next season.
Some fans had a theory that Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) might die, and that’s why Jackson and April are back in town. But since Drew said her questions wasn’t about how characters would come back, it’s possible the staff at the hospital will survive the finale.
No matter what happens, Grey’s Anatomy is returning for season 19, so fans will get answers to the finale questions eventually. The show just might look very different after the events in the finale.
