‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 Spoiler: Newcomer Peter Gallagher’s Character Has a Surprising Connection to a Past Cast Member
Grey’s Anatomy is on its way back. Despite rumors of the show coming to an end, Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 is gearing up to premiere next month. With the premiere on its way, new cast members are being added to the show’s roster. Peter Gallagher was recently announced as the newest recurring character. Here’s what we know about is role.
Who is Peter Gallagher playing on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?
Deadline recently revealed that Gallagher will be joining the Grey’s Anatomy cast as Dr. Anthony Hamilton. According to the outlet, the character knew Meredith’s mother Ellis Grey back when she was a performing surgeon. He and Meredith will meet during the season premiere.
The outlet also revealed that Kate Burton will be returning to reprise her role as Ellis Grey for multiple episodes next season. It is unclear whether Ellis will appear in flashbacks or if it will be another beach scenario where people who have died come back to visit Meredith in her dreams.
Who is returning for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 18?
Grey’s Anatomy has been known to get rid of some of the show’s leading characters. Just last season, Jackson Avery, Andrew DeLuca, and Tom Koracick all left Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. So, who will be back? Original cast members Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. are the last original cast members remaining on the show and they will all return for season 18.
Season 18 premieres on Sep. 30 at 9 p.m. ET.
When will the show end?
Viewers have been wondering when the long-running show will end for some time now. Over the years, creator Shonda Rhimes has never let on to an exact date or season.
“Ellen [Pompeo] and I have a pact that I’m going to do the show as long as she’s going to do the show,” Rhimes told E! News in 2017.“So, the show will exist as long as both of us want to do it. If she wants to stop, we’re stopping. So, I don’t know if we’ll see 600, but I want to keep it feeling fresh. As long as there are fresh stories to tell and as long as we’re both excited about the stories being told, we’re in. So, we’ll see where that takes us.”
Last year, before Giacomo Gianniotti, who played DeLuca, left, he pretty much revealed that no one knows when the show will end.
“At the moment, we have one more season locked in and I feel pretty confident that that’s where it’ll end, I think, from the conversations that I’ve had with people,” he told Us Weekly. “Then again, the studio and the creatives love the show and want it to go on forever.”
Every season, the real world gives Grey’s something new to cover.
“We have a formula that’s really clear,” Gianniotti continued. “We are a show that does a lot of political commentary. We’ve got real issues and there’s no shortage of issues coming up that need to be talked about. So as far as the writers are concerned, they could write it forever because there’s not enough small people in the world who don’t have a big voice that need a megaphone. We provided that year in and year out.”
