‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Executive Producer Krista Vernoff alluded to Jo’s arc in season 17

In an interview with executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff, TV Insider got the scoop on Jo’s storyline for Grey’s Anatomy Season 17. Jo Karev will become Jo after her husband, Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), left her for his ex-wife Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), last season. However, she doesn’t know what she wants to change her last name to, so she won’t have a surname for now.

Later, the physician will get a new roommate to replace Alex, but it won’t be a new romance. Surgical resident Levi (Jake Borelli) moves in with Jo and their friendship blossoms into something no one expected.

“They are delightful,” Vernoff told TV Insider. “It’s an unexpected and joyful friendship. I’m glad they have each other!”

As a result of what’s going on in the world, the show will tackle the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic this season. However, Vernoff says they will find a way to include “humor and joy” into the storyline.

Camilla Luddington teases fans about Jo’s storyline on Twitter

Luddington’s character, Jo, had a rough season 16 with a mental health breakdown and her husband leaving her. So, fans want to see something positive happen to the surgeon. One viewer asked the actor if we could look forward to a happy episode about Jo’s storyline, and Luddington gave fans a little teaser.

“Jo has a… ummmmm……interesting season ahead,” Luddington tweeted with a grimacing emoji. “You’ll seeeeeeeeeee.”

The actor also teased how intense the spoilers will be if viewers do not watch the show live in a tweet earlier this month.

“Watch. Live. This. Season,” the star wrote. “Can’t stress this enough. You’ve been warned.”

While her hints do not give away anything specifically, fans have a theory to what Luddington could be alluding to.

Grey’s Anatomy fans want to know if Luddington is teasing Jo’s sexuality

The long-running medical drama has a history of including same-sex couples in the show; however, fans often comment on how much they miss Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona Robbins’ (Jessica Capshaw) relationship. So, fans feel that with Jo single again, the writers have the opportunity to explore her sexuality.

“Is this teasing her sexuality or what?” one fan asked on Twitter about Luddington’s latest tweet.
