‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Who is Kim Raver’s Husband and Does She Have Kids?
Kim Raver has gotten several meaty storylines since returning to Grey’s Anatomy in season 14 as Dr. Teddy Altman. Playing a cardiothoracic surgeon and mom onscreen, Raver also has a busy family life with her husband and two sons. Fans of the TV doc may not realize that her spouse is also in showbiz.

Raver and her husband, French director Manu Boyer, tied the knot in 2000. The Grey’s Anatomy star described how the two met, but was sparse on details.
“I met him in New York, in a swimming pool,” Raver told Women’s Health in 2005. “That first meeting is kind of sacred, so I think I want to keep it to myself.”
According to IMDb, Boyer has directed and produced several TV movies including Lifetime’s Family Pictures. Raver and Boyer teamed up to co-direct and produce the 2019 Lifetime movie, Tempting Fate, which starred Alyssa Milano.
Boyer raved (pardon the pun) of his wife’s directing talent and rapport with the cast on the film.
“Kim’s a wonderful director,” Boyer said of his spouse. “She’s really good at it and I’d love to keep working with her, and I could see her working as a director on her own. She has a natural ability to talk to actors, obviously, and to direct scenes dramatically. I thought the technical aspects of filmmaking came naturally to her, too.”

As the mom of two teenage sons – Luke, 19, and Leo, 13 – Raver has her hands full even when she’s not on duty at Grey Sloan Memorial. She previously commented on the challenges of parenthood that new moms seldom expect.
“Part of parenting is that things come at you that no one told you about, and there is no handbook on how to navigate through it,” Raver told Working Mother in 2014. “That’s where my girlfriends are really important. … It’s great to have women in my life who help me go through it all.”
With her sons growing into adulthood, the 24 alum noted the shift in her role as their mother, especially her eldest.
“They go from needing you as a mom so much, then they start going into this phase where they want independence,” Raver remarked. “I can’t baby my son the way I used to. It’s challenging to find a way to be supportive and let him know that I am giving him space at the same time.”
Kim Raver balances home life and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ role
With a full plate balancing work and family, Raver found the active lifestyle to be energizing.
“For me, being busy is actually exciting,” she shared. “I love what I do and [being] a mom is incredibly important to me. I like cooking for my kids and it’s really important to have sit-down dinners.”
Raver credited her mother for being able to maintain both a home life and career.
“I had an amazing example of how to juggle it all thanks to my mom,” the Grey’s Anatomy actor explained, “who was a single mother raising me and my sister in New York City in the ’70s.”
Raver and Boyer will celebrate their 21st wedding anniversary in July 2021.
