The Guardians of the Galaxy are used to saving the universe by now. Are these superheroes officially a part of the Avengers? Did Endgame change anything for the Guardians? Here’s what we know about upcoming Marvel movies, starring Peter Quill, Groot, and the rest of the gang.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ premiered during 2014

Superhero fans first met Starlord, Groot, Gamora, and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, when Marvel premiered their first movie. Full of music, color, and jokes, these guys are different from superheroes like Captain American and Iron Man. They’re bad, they’re good, they’re a little bit of both.

Later, Disney and Marvel released a sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which helped explain some of Peter Quill’s past. However, it wasn’t until 2018 that this music-loving gang of misfits met up with the Avengers.

Starlord and the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ appeared in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Up until Avengers: Infinity War, the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers were considered to be two separate groups by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its fans. But, when Thanos threatens to destroy half of all life, it calls for a team-up.

Technically speaking, the Guardians of the Galaxy are not in the Avengers. They were, however, there for Captain America when he said, “Avengers assemble,” fighting alongside known Avengers like Thor, Hulk, and Iron Man.

The person probably closest to being in the Avengers is Rocket, who was seen catching up with Black Widow a few years after the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Tony Stark calls him a Build-A-Bear which, basically, is an initiation in and of itself. None of the Guardians of the Galaxy had an official moment of joining, like Spider-Man had with Tony Stark during Infinity War.

Will there be another ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie?

After the Avengers saved the day in Endgame, one of the Guardians of the Galaxy wondered off of her own. And understandably so — because this is the Gamora from 2013, and the “real” Gamora was thrown off a cliff by Thanos.

One of the last things viewers saw during Marvel’s 2019 blockbuster was the Guardians on the Galaxy off on another adventure, presumably to find Gamora. This time, they’re joined by the God of Thunder, beard and all, who now thinks he’s the captain of this group.

Starlord, Gamora, and Groot fans will have a wait a little longer for a new movie starring these heroes. The third Guardians film was listed among Marvel’s “Phase 5,” along with sequels for Black Panther and Captain Marvel. According to NME, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 premieres sometime during 2022.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are available for streaming on Disney+. To learn more about this service and to subscribe, visit their website.
