‘Be Our Guest’ From ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Was Initially Meant To Be Sung To Belle’s Father
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast includes several fan-favorite songs, “Be Our Guest” among them. However, Disney originally intended for anything character to be sampling the “gray stuff” and watching Lumiere’s dazzling performance.
Here’s what we know about this track from the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack.
Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ included several award-winning songs
The 1990s included plenty of beloved animated movies created by Walt Disney Studios. That includes the 1991 release, Beauty and the Beast. Disney’s animated film told the story of one girl searching for adventure in the great wide somewhere.
This character, Belle, wasn’t expecting to find a castle filled with an enchanted castle overseen by a monstrous beast. Over time (and through plenty of songs), Belle learned that the Beast wasn’t a monster at all. The two eventually fell in love and broke the spell over the castle.
Several songs from this original movie were nominated for the Best Original Song Academy Award. That includes “Belle” and “Be Our Guest.” “Beauty and the Beast” went on to snag the title. “Be Our Guest” became a favorite song of many Disney fans, earning millions of plays on the music platform Spotify.
Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts perform ‘Be Our Guest’ in Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’
After refusing dinner with the Beast, Belle sat down for a spectacular performance by the attendants of the household. During the released version of this film features “Be Our Guest” is performed by the character Lumiere, alongside Mrs. Potts and the always-reluctant Cogsworth.
This production was all for Belle, the “guest” of the castle, who graciously received the food and show. However, this song wasn’t always meant to be performed for the love interest of this Disney film.
According to Disney Rewards, “‘Be Our Guest’ was originally sung to Maurice when he arrives at the castle, but filmmakers realized it should be sung to the leading lady, Belle, and moved it to the dining room scene.”
Disney created a live-action adaptation of ‘Beauty and the Beast’
Years after the release of Disney’s animated film, this company created another version of Beauty and the Beast. This one featured the same characters, now in their live-action and photo-real form.
This reboot included many songs from the animated movie, in addition to original songs created specifically for the live-action version. The Beast lamented over Belle’s absence during the song “Evermore.” Viewers learned more about the Beast’s past during “Days in the Sun.”
There was also a stage production of Beauty and the Beast highlighted with the Disney+ original, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Music from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is available on Spotify and Apple Music. The original animated movie is available for streaming on Disney’s subscription service, Disney+.
