‘Gundam: The Witch From Mercury’ Makes Franchise History With First Female Lead
The anime Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (Japanese name Kidō Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo) received a new teaser trailer from the Bandai Namco group ahead of the Spring 2022 anime season. And it made history by introducing the first female hero in a Gundam television anime series. The Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury trailer also revealed the mobile suit she would pilot, the Gundam Aerial. With Gundam being synonymous with the mobile suit genre of anime, this move is huge in the anime community.
Who is the first female lead in the ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury’?
The Bandai Namco Conference on March 29 revealed details and new Gundam characters, including the next hero.
When the new clip started, it revealed the young red-haired female protagonist for the new Gundam TV series. She sports a high collar and oversized sleeves as her mobile suit loomed behind her. Bandai Namco has not revealed the first female Gundam protagonist’s name yet.
While few other details have been revealed about what this new female Gundam protagonist will face, the series often explores war and who the characters fight. It also digs into why the heroes are fighting.
Depending on the new hero’s motivation, she could stand out even more from other characters that came before her.
What is the ‘Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury’ release date and first female lead debut?
The Witch From Mercury has a release date of October 2, 2022. Bandai Namco plans to air new episodes each Sunday during the Fall 2022 anime season.
However, before the first female protagonist debuts in the Gundam series, Bandai Namco has other plans.
Bandai Namco also revealed a prequel project for the anime titled Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Prologue. They described it as a full-fledged project with a unique story and mobile suits, like the Gundam Lfrith and Beguir-Beu.
The Witch From Mercury Prologue release date is set for Summer 2022. Hopefully, it does not suffer a delay like the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie.
