The Golden Bachelorette frontrunner, Guy Gansert, was at the center of controversy this week when a report surfaced about his post-divorce behavior. According to court documents, a woman associated with the ER physician sought a temporary order of protection against him in 2021 after a verbal altercation outside of a gym. The order was never granted, but the news reignited conversations about the vetting process participants in dating competitions must undergo. Gansert and the team behind The Golden Bachelorette have now broken their silence.

Guy Gansert issues a statement about allegations against him

According to recent reports, Guy Gansert and a former flame had a verbal altercation outside of a gym that left the victim shaking. According to court documents obtained by the U.S. Sun, Gansert threatened to shoot his victim. The victim went on to claim Gansert regularly texted her. The victim voluntarily withdrew the request and came to an agreement with Gansert regarding contact.

While the victim’s name was not released during initial media reports, Gansert confirmed his ex-wife was the woman who filed for the order. In his statement, Gansert revealed that he had difficulty adjusting to life after his marriage had ended. He said he was at a low point and has spent the time since the incident reflecting and improving himself.

Gansert’s ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, has not issued a statement regarding the situation. No other women have stepped forward to suggest problematic behavior from the ER physician. This may have been a one-time event, rather than a pattern of troubling behavior. Gansert and O’Gara were married for 34 years and share four children.

Around the time that Gansert issued his statement via Instagram, a member of The Golden Bachelorette production team also spoke out. They told the publication that Gansert was allowed to move forward and appear in the series because the victim voluntarily withdrew the request.

Gansert’s situation appears to be different from a similar situation involving Gil Ramirez. Ramirez was booted from the mansion during week 4. Shortly after the series premiered, it was revealed that an order of protection against Ramirez had been issued days before he began filming. Documents for the order, requested by a former flame, alleged that Ramirez had stalked and harassed his ex-girlfriend. The behavior began after she ended their romance. The production team issued a statement revealing that Ramirez had not been forthcoming about his issues. They noted that the order was granted after the vetting process had been completed. The series edited him out as much as possible.
