On July 3, 2021, Shelton and Stefani married in a backyard chapel on his Oklahoma ranch. Their guest list was small, with just 40 friends and family members in attendance.
“They purposely kept the wedding simple,” a source close to the couple told People. “They didn’t want a circus. In the end, they just wanted to have this moment with their loved ones.”
Stefani and Shelton wanted to focus on spending the day with their family members.
“They’re a very family-oriented couple, and that’s exactly what the wedding was about,” added the source. “Family was at the center of everything.”
Shelton wanted the day to be everything his new wife could ever want.
“Their shared faith is very important,” the source said. “Having the wedding at home was a way for their families — and Gwen — to be as comfortable as possible. Blake wanted the day to be perfect for Gwen. His love for her is so deep.”
Gwen Stefani shared why she and Blake Shelton waited to get married
Shelton and Stefani were together for years before they tied the knot. She said she wanted to make sure her children had adjusted to the relationship before they married.
“I think there was a lot to consider when you have so many people involved,” Stefani said on Today (via People). “Children, and their hearts, and everybody in my family [and] his family, we all went through a lot together.”
She said they wanted to get married almost immediately, but they knew they had to wait.
“So I think in a romantic way, when you fall in love so hard and so unexpectedly — and so late in your life — you think ‘I want to marry you!’ That’s the first romantic reaction, like, ‘Let’s get married,'” she said. “So we always talked about it, of course, and I think that as the years were going by, it didn’t need to happen. There was a lot of healing to do.”
She said her wedding was one of the greatest moments of her life
Stefani said her wedding was the greatest day of her life. She and Shelton had been together for years, but she said it still felt surprising to her.
“It was literally one of the greatest moments of my life, obviously, but it was beyond what I thought it was going to be,” Stefani said on the podcast Tell Me About It. “It was beyond dreamy, but the crazy part was it was just so unexpected in my life, so to try to choose an outfit — a wedding gown and all that — I had no idea what it was going to be.”
She said she felt lucky to be able to experience the day.
