Years after they were first connected romantically, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are about to embark on the next phase of their relationship. The duo has recently become engaged, and they are set to wed when the pandemic gets under control.

While fans have been waiting with bated breath for the duo to get married, it looks like Stefani was also growing increasingly impatient. She just revealed that she was confused about why Shelton waited so long to propose.

Inside Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s long-term relationship

When Shelton and Stefani originally met on The Voice in 2014, they were married to other people. The duo were both going through tumultuous divorces by the next year, and they formed a friendship.

Fans began noticing their bond, and when Stefani cheekily said, “I think he’s hot,” during an interview On Air with Ryan Seacrest, it seems to signify that there was something there.

The pair went public with their relationship on Dec. 27, 2015, at an NFL game, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

Blake Shelton finally proposed to Gwen Stefani after five years

Shelton finally popped the question in the fall of 2020. The country singer proposed with a $500,000 ring at the chapel on their private ranch in Oklahoma.

“He felt that [the chapel] was the perfect place to propose because it has so much meaning to the both of them,” an insider told Hollywood Life. “Gwen loves the chapel so much and she even has a necklace with a charm of the chapel that she wears often.”

Kathryn Money, the VP of Strategy and Merchandising at the Brilliant Earth jewelry brand, told Us Weekly that the ring “features a classic, six-prong setting with a 6-carat solitaire diamond set in a white gold or platinum band.”

Gwen Stefani admits she was confused why Blake Shelton waited to long to propose

Before they became a couple, Stefani and Shelton were really good friends. After going through awful divorces in 2015, they truly bonded, eventually getting together as a couple in 2016.

From the beginning, the pair seemed to realize they’d met their match. “An Okie boy and a California girl look on paper like an unlikely match, but what matters is she’s a great human being,” Shelton told People. “She is the most understanding, kind-hearted person I’ve ever met, and I learn something from her every day.”

Since they were so certain about each other, Stefani admits that she’s confused why Shelton waited so long to propose.

“I gotta tell you, I was sorta like, What’s happening with us?” she revealed during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. “It was kind of in my mind like, We’ve been together a long time now. What’s going on? I was in that place in my head.”

Unfortunately, the pandemic means that the couple won’t be walking down the aisle just yet. Stefani quipped,

We have no plans because of the pandemic. It’s like, Blake, why couldn’t you have done it before! Now we can’t have a wedding with the pandemic. It’s like sitting around going, OK, drag it out more!
